Our Annoyance Immune System is being weakened. So what encounters you do have with the outside world, the world you can't control, make you want to go on a screaming crotch-punching spree.
1) oh yes, but it's not the same. You can log off, turn of the computer, go play a game. If your stuck in cristhmas shopping, and the fat lady infront of you is trying to buy a 2 $ lego kit with a credit card, you can't do much about it if you want your shoppin done.Lindir The Green wrote:*stuff*
Say a photo turns up, of you nakedly doing something that would shame you and your family for generations. Bestiality, whatever. Ask yourself how many people in your life you would trust with that photo.
Good find, excellent article.Kixxe wrote:http://www.pointlesswasteoftime.com/misery.html

The article covers that, it's the difference between criticism and insult. Maybe you get a little offended by someone on the internet, but you realise they don't know you, so how can you be really offended... Whereas you can be offended by someone who actually knows you in real life, because that's where you actually care about what people think.Lindir wrote: 1) Forums filled with people who have the same interests do NOT EVER get along. There will still be people who annoy you, and there will be people who insult you. And you still have to deal with them.
Text will keep being the preferred tool for dealing with people you don't like online, because of the extra control he mentioned. You can't actually expose yourself with text so you will prefer to use it when dealing with those people.Lindir wrote: 2) IMO, communicating through text will be outdated sometime, and will be replaced with voice communication / video communication / telepathic communication. Not in bulleten board like forums though.
Ofcourse, to some extend... but the internet still has a negative impact, even though it's not all bad...Lindir wrote: 3) Yes, if you are constantly online and the only people you know are online, you will have problems. But hardly anybody is like that. People still have school, and jobs, and family, and friend that you get together with for oldskool roleplaying, and sci-fi conventions filled with real people.
I DON'T CARE!
