it really does have way too much metal to make for a good 1v1 (although u can still have one im posting one at FU soon against forbiden)
could the author half the metal in the map and re-release it? that would be awesome

Hmm, the problem with releasing a 1vs1 version of River Dale is that I'd have to throw another 3mb .smf file into the archive, thus increasing the size by something around 1mb.
I'm a bit unsure too if you mean the income from a patch simply should be decreased, or if the placement of them should be changed too (reducing the total amount of patches then). Anyway, I'm not sure that people think the 1mb extra for two almost identical versions of the map would be worth it, but then again what do I know.
Still, if the only thing needed would be a decrease of the maxmetal value in the .smd, well, then one might consider if its worth adding the ability to use many different .smd files for a single map. That's not anything I can do anything about though.

I think the point is that it would be grossly inefficient to do so. Play one of the smaller maps or mod the engine to support having multiple maps that use the same geometry/textures rather than having a tonne of redundant data. In Unreal Tournament 2004, a large number of maps out there are just old maps with remixed weapon/vehicle layouts and they bloat up your download folders so fast your head will spin.Min3mat wrote:just metal income halved, i think it should be pretty easy to do. just release it as a seperate map, the full river dale with altered SMD called River Dale SE (singleplayer edition)

The other two I can see, although I would bet that most graphics artist, even of the professional type, can fit thier entire portfolios into under 100gig... but an OS programmer? You would never need more then maby 3 active build's primary backup and maby some other F around version... Even if you have a massive OS like windows the source can't take up too much more then 4 gigs. The vast majority of your backup stuff would be small sepearate txt files.Dragon45 wrote:Yes, if you're either an amuteur movie maker or a pro graphics artist or an OS programmer.
Maybe a distro builder - I figure the packages and images could pile up pretty fast.SwiftSpear wrote:The other two I can see, although I would bet that most graphics artist, even of the professional type, can fit thier entire portfolios into under 100gig... but an OS programmer?
