new Unitclass suggestion
So Spring have all posible Units what you can imagine!?
I dont think so! ok, there are units for water, air and earth, BUT there are only Buildings for water and earth!? Why could we made some "flying buildings"? I think this could be interresting!
the advantage of this building could be that they can move, and the disadvantage could be SLOW moving and low hp or low buildingspeed.
But i like my idear so dont let them die, give him (or me) a chance

Re: new Unitclass suggestion
You can easily have flying "buildings" as buildings are only units with some certain tags (ie. don't move, you can build stuff, etc...)
So all you would need to do is create a unit that does whatever you want your building to do and let it move and fly.
GundamRTS has a flying ship that might be similar to what you mentioned, and IIRC there are a few very old mods that had flying spaceships that acted similarly as well.

im not so fit in modelling and in texturing can you forgett me!
are flying building a option for CA?

Re: new Unitclass suggestion
out of curiosity with a moving factory how do you differentiate between moving and setting the waypoint?
Re: new Unitclass suggestion
1) nobody is going to do your work for you. If you want to see something in CA, you make it yourself and then the CA guys might shoot your ideas down. Look at MidKnight. First he made some fugly special units, then gave up and joined CA's remodelling project.
2) CA has very little use for extreme high-end units. Mecha are very rarely seen. "Flying buildings" which sound like spaceships and thus would probably be airborne versions of mechs, would be similarly rarely seen in CA.
Unless you mean _immobile_ flying buildings, that is, buildings that are airborne and thus vulnerable to anti-air fire instead of anti-ground weapons... that would be conceptually neat, but graphically unrealistic when artillery fail to shoot at static targets.

The upcoming gunship lab model will extend into the sky, but it won't fly.

Flying may be a cool idea for the core air factory.

Re: new Unitclass suggestion
ok, please say if that isnt right:
When i have a idear -> then done it self that the CA team can destroy
my answer: OK, but it will be not good for you eyes.
And, you mean flying buildings aren good for CA? (i dont want very strong and heavy units)
EDIT: knoking on heavens door (for enemys) IT looks great!!!

Re: new Unitclass suggestion
Yes, they are an option. However, we would need someone to make them. If you want you can look through the wiki and learn how to do a lot of things.
http://springrts.com/wiki/Mod_and_Unit_ ... evelopment
CA uses Lua for the unit files instead of FBI, but they are quite similarly done. If you want to see all the stuff CA has, you can download the svn version which makes it easy to look through and edit (your local copy at least) anything you want.
http://trac.caspring.org/wiki/SubversionRepository
CA already has a flying Spec-Ops plane that can build units as well, if you want to look at that for a base. (as well as looking at the regular factories)
As for models, I believe MidKnight Made some sort of floaty looking airpad that I can easily imagine as a floating building. You could also just model a cube and use that to test your model until someone comes up with a better building. If you find some nice concept art or images I might be inclined to make one.
EDIT: It isn't the one that MK just posted.

Re: new Unitclass suggestion
hm, i dont want to go into te deep of CA, and i will modell with Blender and so the script isnt working for s3o somone other have to complete my modells (if there good enought)
thanks that my idear can live on

Re: new Unitclass suggestion
I find blender to be very difficult (especially when you're first learning to model
) If you are having trouble with your model I would suggest wings3d

Re: new Unitclass suggestion
Not a bad start keep working at it, try modelling something more complex. While you need more complexity, you also need to use less polygons. You can afford to be liberal, but not like, smooth toroids kind of liberal...

Don't ever touch the smooth button... Ever. It will give you AIDs and Cancer.
