EA to aquire Bioware Studios

Post by Sheekel »

What is it with EA and buying out smaller game companies, forcing them to release shitty, unfinished games, and then closing them down because the game sucked? Bioware is one of my favourite companies.

EA blows.

Just watch, the bigger they are, the harder they fall...

EA is a publisher. Publishers buy games companies. Look on the bright side, at least Bioware wasn't bought by Microsoft or Sony.

Microsoft makes decent games. EA has a reputation for TERRIBLE customer service, they seem to have a "Hey, it compiles! Release it!" mentality.

At least they never reverse engineered a console and blackmailed a console maker into allowing them special rights on their system - oh, wait, I forgot about the Sega Genesis.

Phail

I hate EA Just for closing westwood alone, those people were good, Did you know RA2 was made in 1 Year, because EA told them to hurry it, the game was good for a 1 year job, but a bit more time would of made it well simply better

EA buying out all these small companies is really getting me pissed...

EA wouldn't be doing customer support for bioware titles anyways.

And dude... Microsoft makes decent games sure, if you like Xbox360 and vista exclusive titles.

I'm still clinging to the "Digital distribution will fix it!" mantra. Although, increasingly it looks like this won't save us either - the big publishers have the most popular DD systems, so they still hold the reins :(.

We are truly excited by John Riccitiello's new vision for EA," said Ray Muzyka, Co-founder and CEO of BioWare Corp.

Why don´t just EA go around and stab gamers with knives instead?

Less profitable, more costly. It defy's their standard of doing things quickly and half assed, since if you screw up stabbing someone they stab you back.

Actually, Microsoft produced games are generally really good and many are very innovative. Allegiance (can be gotten for free at freealleg.org) is a shining example.

More EA titles in production = more hiring of programmers.

More hiring of programmers = good, because EA is one of the few companies that will hire full programmers right out of college.

Then work them till they bleed for 3 years and drop them. Seriously, yeesh, maybe it's just internet rumor, but there are some terrible rumors about the work conditions there.

They're mostly true from what I hear from people who have worked for EA.

However, a job's a job, and it's a way to get into the industry and eventually work for someone interesting. At this point it's really either EA, one of the video casino machine makers, simulations, or beta testing that are open to fresh college graduates.
