I remember the deathmatch mode for multiplayer, it was definitely an option (a third option on the "comm ends = continue/end" toggle). I'd never tried it though.

not in the ORIGINAL OTA. in the OLD TA there was a MOD to do this IIRC

Yeah, deathmatch wasn't built in, it was mod-enabled.

It was in OTA. You can install it again (patch to later version though, I think it was added in a patch) and see for yourself.
