Hmm, it'd also be neat if you could make them read based on what kind of terrain they're over... for example, a landed aircraft might read as a stationary ground unit until it takes off, a hovercraft could read as a small ship or a tank depending on where it is, etc.
they are planes or something like that right? yeah... it should be lodded by unit distance not by cammera distance... or ONLY used for fully TAB zoomed out view.
This is why we need a base distance tag also to the icons. Those units show
up fine... in all honesty if someone wants they can also use this to make
spring run a bit faster by setting the dot render distance to a lower value. So
I support a user setting but a value to make some icon-up later then others
would be go
However, in light of this, I am making icons for all 90+ units but it would be
nice to have the ability to set the base distance for some of the larger units.
ooooh, you could have each dot blend together to form one massive blob, so that it gives you a vauge sense of where the enemy is, but doesnt give away how many or what type of unit. Only when you zoom in do the dots fully differentiate.
Another thought: Would it be possible to make it display a generic icon for enemies but a specific one for yourself/allies? For example, I'd see my own X-Wing as a spiffy little X-Wing icon, but the enemy would only see a generic "that's an air unit!" icon. This should be how it is anyway, seeing as in your test you gave the TA commander a special icon... imagine the abuse there if you can fly over once and look for a specific icon of a unit which should really be indistinguishable without direct LOS.
