Unit Formation question.

Post by Osirus »

Is there any way to arrange a group of units and make them move without the fast units getting ahead of the slower?

Also could I get a brief explanation of the wait command?

Thanks!

You can't but try issueing move orders with CTRL or ALT

Wait (W)
Start issuing your chain of commands (Holding Shift). BEFORE a command that you want your units to wait for a go command to execute, hit Shift+W, then continue queuing up orders. Now, to cancel the first wait queued on this group, and have them continue with the rest of the queue, select the units when they're waiting and hit W. Many of these wait waypoints can be chained together. Note that if you hit W before some or all of the selected units have completed the command before the wait, only those that have completed the preceding command will continue.

Units are automatically issued a "stop waiting" command when loaded into and unloaded from a transport.

or you use the AI menu and select simple formation
I've noticed that tends to make all units move at the same speed.

has anyone else noticed their simple formation AI's acting up recently? It used to work fine for me, but now whenever I select it for a group, it echos that only construction units may be included (or something) and then refuses to change to another group AI from then on...

I've tried replacing the DLL and reinstalling spring a few times (especially with the new releases as well, I've done clean installs for all) so I don't know why I still have the problem... :? Any ideas? :|

A common error with the wait command is to issue the orders to the units, including the W wait order, and then, when you want them to execute the commands after the W, press W without having the units selected... you have to have the units selected that you want to continue with their queues.
