I know... he just wants them al perfect dont he... :-) But its good realy because he wants the best from us. Makes me work harder. I think next up ill do a volcano Islands that ISNT sloppy. And then a Huge water/land map. But for now...

About the mountain texture.... its a bit of a mix realy.

Basicly I reneder the mountains as normal in terregen.

Then I take the output into photoshop.
> select all teh mountains (magic wand for the win)
> contract mask by 3 and expand by 3 (to get rid of the stray pixels *hopefully*)
> Feather teh mask by about 10 - 20 ish.
> fill with a texture from a rock. (ill explane this in a mo)
> then set to soft light or overlay, or whatever looks best, and set to about 50% opacity.

On teh rock teture, I took some photos of rocks, made them into a square, ofsett them and fixed up trhe seams so it would tile, shrunk it to 512 x 512 and saved as a texture. Then just use the fill tool to fill yoru mask.
You can do it with more than one texture per a mountain to... to get more details.

If you want I could save up the 2 Im currently using and put them on FU.

Also did similar for the cracked mud around the waters edge...

No worries... ill dump them here maybe ill release a texture pack for people to use yes? Would be helpfull i bet. And Ill write a mapping tips section to add into the map tutorial that forboding did, insted of making my own which is daft as his is so good.
