Multiplayer on linux?
Some questions:
How do people using linux play with other people?
If I can play with other people, can I play with people using windows?
And is there a linux client similar to the one on windows?

I'm cleaning up my branch... preparing for integration in the main code. That's only the changes from double to float plus my advanced sync debugger tho. Once that's done I'll slowly go figuring out which variables are synced and which are unsynced and test in between to see if I can get a clue what still causes desync (with my sync debugger).BvDorp wrote:how's things going on the sync, tobi?
Just played a few games using WINE yesterday. No serious problems at all. WINE version: 0.9.8 from a Gentoo Linux ebuild. (by the way, the TASpring ebuild I got from the wiki worked quite well, and I'll be switching to it as soon as the sync troubles are fixed and the lobby is done.)
I made absolutely NO modifications to WINE. It works right "out of the box" for me.
Some small quirks:
On the Speed Metal map, the ground would look darker on occasion, and sometimes the explosions would briefly leave a darker trail that would disappear almost immediately.
In the lobby client, chat messages don't quite scroll the way they should, and various windows don't stay put like they should, but no big deal at all.
Bottom line: works good for me. Certainly better than playing on my Windows based laptop with an older graphics card.

Just an update regarding WINE:
It seems that TASpring won't work for me using any version of WINE newer than 0.9.8 Not sure what the problem is. Tinkered around with it for quite a while and no gaming goodness. Either nothing happens, or it complains that "No IP address specified". (not sure what my IP has to do with starting up a program)

Not true, I've played using every winehq release of wine from 0.9.8 forward. I am currently using 0.9.15. The only change I have had to make is setting Windows 95 emulation mode to fix the memory leak.longhair wrote:Just an update regarding WINE:

It can still be true, even if it is not true in your case.det wrote:Not true, I've played using every winehq release of wine from 0.9.8 forward. I am currently using 0.9.15.
