I have been a fan of the original TA for ages. Only recently I learnt of a huge modding comunity that is around, so I started downloading and installing (not to great success) every mod I could find. The only reason I stumbled across TA Spring is because I was looking for the SWTA mod and found it on their site.
When I first loaded TA Spring, I could not believe my eyes. This is by far the coolest thing I have seen done with a classic game by far.
I have played the random enemies script a few times and tried (unsuccessfully) an online game. I just have a few queries:
Is there a way I can play a game where the AI will build a base and attack?
How do I get the custom mods I have downloaded to work (single player)? (I have the mod switcher and it doesn't seem to help much)
Does anyone else have any useful advice with me about this program? The reason I ask is that it took me ages to figure out how to drive a unit.
Does anyone else have the problem with air units locking on to pieces of terrain? When this happens, I find that I can't steer with the mouse... is there a better way to do this?
p.s. Congrats to the creators and anyone who has put work into TA Spring. You have done what I never thought was possible; improve on a classic.
Very New To This (Anyone wanna share some advice?)

First of all... welcome to the comunity... people here tend to be mean to n00bs so I would suggest you figure some basics out...
This: http://taspring.clan-sy.com/wiki/Main_Page
is as close as you'll get to documentation for the project
This Article: http://taspring.clan-sy.com/wiki/Using_Spring
is as close as you'll get to a manual specifically
Don't bother with the "mod switcher"... it's depricated...
Im not sure if it still works but SpringSP is a mod switcher/ai chooser... AF usually includes it in his AI distrubutions... http://www.darkstars.co.uk/index.php?na ... ic&p=17#17
If you are wondering where to get a file: http://www.fileuniverse.com is the place to look
finally, maps go in the maps folder, mods go in the mods folder, and if you take the script.txt file in you install directory and change the line about which mod to use you can test mods by dragging and dropping the modified script file onto the spring executable...
Finally... figure out how to make TASClient work... because the AI's are all still a little flakey... and it pretty much automates the whole process...
meanwhile... have fun and learn to not get pissed at the trolls and flamers...

the aiming off camera bug is in the bug tracker http://taspring.clan-sy.com/mantis/view.php?id=105 and does not appear to have yet been resolved
quit pimping G/E/M Caydr
If you want to fight AIs, they aren't very challenging yet, but you can download AAI .55 or the latest NTAI. NTAI also comes bundled with SpringSP, like SinbadEV said, the only real way to play Spring single-player.
By the way, driving units is totally unimportant, they work better when left to themselves, but if you want to learn other things about Spring, the best thing you can do is just read the forums. Occasionally something will come up that even surprises people who have been playing for a while (like SinbadEV's recent wiki addition, http://taspring.clan-sy.com/wiki/Using_ ... _Buildings)

I presume it's under AI's in fileuniverse?Caydr wrote:You can steer a plane manually using the arrow keys. Helps to use them for real maneuvering while mouse is for fine tuning and aiming...
Hey, want a good time? Get AA 1.44, type ".cheat", ".give valkrie"
yeah, i figured that out last night. I'm starting to get used to it. I know it's unimportant... but it's sooooo cool.Caydr wrote:You can steer a plane manually using the arrow keys. Helps to use them for real maneuvering while mouse is for fine tuning and aiming...

What does the .give valkrie cheat do in AA (besides give you a valkrie) that's so special?
Indeed.... of course WE (AATA) had the acronym first but...siborg wrote:i have AA 1.44 (that's absolute annihilation right? NOT axis and allies) but I can't get it to work. I'll try that ntai thing. I tried AATA(axies & allies) for the normal TA under TA-M and it didnt work, it crashed in the loading menu just before the skirmish started.FLOZi wrote:Indeed.... of course WE (AATA) had the acronym first but...siborg wrote:i have AA 1.44 (that's absolute annihilation right? Oh yeah, I downloaded NTAI with the SpringSP on it. THAT solves all (except for the online play) problems. I'm gonna have a fiddle with my comp tonight (if I get time) to try and get it going. But with SpringSP, it lets me choose the mod, so all I have to do then is to put the mod file in te mod directory. THIS IS SO GREAT!!!!!! Now I wanna start making mods/units myself. I should probably start with the original, though
