That would look pretty fugly tbh. Think about it. This light algae green to sewer green that the site uses is not particularly attractive.

Green? It looks blue to me.
Also I am concerned that the original removal was because of an emmanuel mantis report.

From the top:
131,151,162 << GreenBlue washed out
to
56,70,79 << at the bottom.
If it looks blue to you, you need to do monitor calibration. But yeah, pukey to pukey.

Re: wanted: pretty default backgroundimage
those are both mostly blue colors.. I can see washed out blue but green?
Also I kind of liked that starry image knorke put up, I think something along that line or luckywaldos would be cool for a neutral background. Not only would it be neutral but I think sometimes simple is just better.

No, it didn't need to be updated.Forboding Angel wrote:It simply needs to be updated. Who gives a "I FUCK IN SKY" what it represents? As long as it's pretty I don't give a shit and neither should any of you.
And being pretty isn't the only requirement. It shall also be dull enough to not distract from the text printed over, it shan't lean too much toward any game whilst still being being related to Spring, ...

I actually had the same idea and tried it out, not great tbh.luckywaldo7 wrote:Just make it the same simple gradient as the website background.
No stretching, super-neutral.
Re: wanted: pretty default backgroundimage
Or just.. you know, make it configurable.
If it is already, then whatever!

Re: wanted: pretty default backgroundimage
Yes it did. Looked terrible and dated and the image used was a much lower resolution causing it to look like crap on anything running a normal screen resolution.zwzsg wrote:No, it didn't need to be updated.
Kinda like this site and it's 760 glorious pixels of width that is so crunched that it actually fucks up the forum layout.

Re: wanted: pretty default backgroundimage
I have low standards and thought the old image was pretty too!
Re: wanted: pretty default backgroundimage
The old screenshot was decent I guess, but the main reasons as I see it to not just re-use the old image is that it's overly bright, only 1600x1200, no antialiasing (thus making trees look grainly), and low-res shadows.
Quite a few fans of it even with it's faults I see. What map is it? It could easily be retaken with higher quality and resolution.

Have it cycling player screenshots?

no clue which map it was, here it was added:The Yak wrote:What map is it? It could easily be retaken with higher quality and resolution.

now i'm unsure what to do. atm the compromise is to revert to the old picture until a better one is found. the screenshots in this thread had some problems:
- some of them were to bright, as the menu text is white/grey, imo the image should be darker as the old one
- resolution to low (should be at least 1680x1050)
the suggestion about changing the image when selecting a game was good, i'll investigate, shouldn't be so hard to implement this, maybe i make it a config setting, which path/picture is used, not sure whats best.
note: i've reverted to the old picture: https://github.com/spring/spring/commit ... cd58f1af97
Re: wanted: pretty default backgroundimage
The old image is just a picture of a nice beach. How can it not be neutral? I would prefer to have a nice picture instead of something computer-generated. Ok, maybe miost things are computer-generated graphics, but IMO the more realistic the better.
I don't think the loading screen image has to reflect the style of the game itself. Just look at those computer games from the 80's and 90's, like super mario bros etc. The have a nice pictures on the splash screen, but the games itself are very limited in graphics.
For example, look at this:
Splash screen:

in-game:
