Can't add maps

Ihave placed the files in the folder specified here:
http://springrts.com/wiki/Maps

I rebooted the computer twice.

Reinstalled using directions here:
http://zero-k.info/Wiki/Download

After extracting the files to "/home/a/.spring/maps"
and restarting the program, nothing happens, the maps don't show up.

anyone have any ideas what could be wrong?

No file named"infolog" was found on the system, but I should stress that I have never started any game, as I have never yet been able to add any map.

oh, boy do I feel dumb.

I'm completely new to both Linux and this so I assumed that when firefox asked if I wanted to open the file with an extraction prog it was the right thing to do. Live n learn!

I don't know if it still works, but try installing " spring-installer". It will install a handler for *.sdz and *.sd7 files, that will make firefox install maps and games ("mods") into the right folders.
