Is classic pathfinder going to be fixed?

Is classic pathfinder going to be fixed?

Post by Google_Frog »

Classic pathfinder has bugs/issues which make it unusable. These bugs are not directly related to how good the pathfinder is perceived to be. As in the bugs are clearly bugs and not directly related to pathing.

Anyway I ask because I get the feeling that classic is totally unsupported. So my predicted mantis response is for Kloot to rage and close the tickets. I am not really making a bug report here, it is more asking whether these are things which would be considered worth fixing.

In case this is important, here are some issues:
  • Spring.MoveCtrl.SetGroundMoveTypeData is unsupported. It says incompatible move type for all unit types.
  • Setting COB.MAX_SPEED via lua can only reduce a unit's speed. Once it has reduced speed I can find no way to increase it's speed.
  • Impulse does nothing to ground units.

1) it's a movetype, not a pathfinder
2) perhaps you should read the disclaimer at the top of https://raw.github.com/spring/spring/de ... veType.cpp

"(Lua) issues which make it unusable"

ZK was not the intended target game.

Why would you want to use the classic pathfinder anyway? It was terrible.

I'm not sure where you guys get these rose colored glasses through which you see that old pathfinder, but I assure you, it sucked gigantic dong.

Apparently classic works slightly better than standard in this version and QTPFS freezes some people. I didn't test this thoroughly myself but I'll trust other ZK devs here.

Is the classic pathfinder broken because spring is more granular versus OTA?

If I understand correctly this thread is the equivalent of this:

A mans car breaks down at the side of the road, while checking his phone a friendly mechanic comes along and fixes his car using "advanced mechanics". The car now works as it did before and will take the man on his journey

The man is thankful for the new 'advanced mechanics', but exclaims:

"This is great but is the old car going to be fixed?"

Except that it doesn't work as before.

It was broken before, always has been to varying degrees, else kloot would never have needed to touch it.

From what Kloot has said you have two choices:
  • Waste your own time, everybody elses time, and demoralise Kloot, by complaining about the old pathfinder and brokenness
  • Accept the old pathfinder is dead in the water and point out the flaws in the new code so it gets fixed sooner and we can all move on with out lives

Maybe AF you should play more and spam forum less.
QTPS causes lags for all and freezes on startup for some.

Enjoy playing game with that. So we are still stuck at "standard" which is worse than "classic". (Try playing sea for example, ships beaching all the time)

I make the simple point that if things are broken Kloot should fix them, and this is exactly what he has been doing, and what he should continue to do, and is.

Complaining about it endlessly and asking for the 'standard' path finder to be fixed is going to demotivate him, and then we'll be stuck with 2 broken pathfinders rather than one.

I don't want to ruin anybody's mood. But at least for ZK there are atm 3 semi-broken pathfinders :)

We don't really care what is pathfinder using, whether it is QTPS, crappy legacy code or works by magic.

We only care about player experience. Legacy seemed to be fastest to fix because it used to work reasonably well and is just missing some lua integration, thats why there was question regarding it.

But there is no ideology whatsoever behind it, we just want one working pathfinder .. whatever it is.. ZK even has modoption to switch them so we can test quickly.

In that case, can we have a mantis bug report for each individual bug so that we can see feedback and progress from the devs rather than random forum posts and exchanges here there and everywhere?

http://springrts.com/mantis/view_all_bug_page.php

I see something about 90 aircraft refusing to leave a factory in an older version of spring, but nobody has reported the 'ship parties on the beach' bug yet

why do you take me to another video of kloots epenis? It took me 4 minutes to wipe the screen..

Yep, new pathfinding is awesome, discussion ended a while ago, now why not do something productive with the rest of the thread.

new topic is this:

Definatly the main-attitude off console-tards, how to change?
