i don't like the whole automatically generated campaign;
the whole point of a campaign is to play (often imbalanced) scenarios that tell you a story, often involving humanoid characters and some drama

In TA in SupCom and in this one, a story driven campaign would juts be rediculeous.

Yeah, I feel like it would be hard to have a campaign beyond the "tutorial/trainer stages with a loose story attached to it" type which I REALLY hope they DO have. I like the idea of an emergent "story" that exists in the procedurally generated galaxy they are describing... it works for Dwarf Fortress and Minecraft.

i only later got the campaign CD for TA so i didn't play much of the campaign there (but it sure wasn't procedural, i distinctly recall there being custom missions)
and supcom has a proper campaign as well
so it might've been ridiculous but it's also the reality

Yeah they made campaigns for both games and it was ridiculous.

Precisely, a means of easing the player into the game that isn't boring is a necessity... it's one of the most important things that almost all Spring games lack.

You can have a good single-player experience without a good story. Relevant example: Starcraft 2. It mixed up game mechanics through the different missions that kept things interesting to play (not all just, turtle to huge army then steamroll). Nothing of interest to mention about the story though.

In fact, I would say its better to have no story at all and leave everything to the imagination of the player than to create a half-baked story.

Imagine how abysmally awful the Total War campaigns would be had they made them a linear story based set of scenarios.

Hmm, well I often get bored when doing the Total War campaign. I just tend to get to the point where I'm too strong and it stops being a challenge.

Agh they added a full orchestral as a stretch goal, I thought that was already included in the base game? They mentioned it in the original video

The video just says classical music.

There's actually a difference between single instruments mixed together in a studio or having a full-fledged orchestra, you know?

So yes, you will get those bassy classical music anyway, but quality-wise could be a massive difference based on how much money they have available to spend in an orchestra.
That stuff just doesn't fall from the sky and orchestras are expensive.

Imo the orchestral stuff is cool and was requested by quite a few people.
The further goal of a docu sounds kinda lame, but it is a stretch goal for a lot of KS projects because it is one of those generic, easy-to-price and easy-to-outsource added value gimmicks, whereas adding a new race or something is much harder to price and affects the primary makers of the game.

So all in all, sounds cool, they got the funding, I have a day left to send my $.

What a end for a era- tied to a rock, fired into the sun for some solar flares.
