Why do you quote the post above you (Never got why people do that... not that it matters)?
I will paste my reply to kremmy here as well, because it contains a bit of summation:
Forboding Angel wrote:Kremmy, have you ever worked on content for the engine? I'm guessing no. So therefore you could not possibly understand what a mountain of work it is. You do not have time to analyze the fucking folder structure of every damn release and the thought of doing so is ridiculous.
Here is what happens when a new spring version comes out.
All of us content devs scramble to install it and find what is broken (oh there is always something broken in a new version, no exceptions). If you will read, the way I was distributing rapid originally would work every single time, but I wanted to use rapid that was bundled with the engine so that I wouldn't have to distribute potentially old versions. So I put the appropriate commands in a batch file and zipped it up.
Then I received a TORRENT of emails from people about them not being able to install evo, causing me to go into a panic of trying to figure it out. The entire problem could have been avoided by simply stating that rapid had been put in a subfolder in the changelog or the release notes.
My issue here is not so much that rapid should be moved or anything, it's the fact that it was not documented. You haven't been around long enough to know that this issue with undocumented shit has been ongoing for years, and it DOES matter, and it causes us (the content devs) big problems.
Giant fights have broken out because of crap like this in the past. It has been fairly better the past 6 months or so, but the engine devs constantly change stuff in the engine with no communication to us and then we get bent over the table and fucked because of it. (added after the fact: It also makes us look like amateurs to the players as well, which is undesirable in any circumstance)
Back @ peet, and I expect nothing but trolling from you... Ever. It's not a big deal, but ever since you first visited 4chan you turned into a real jerk. Protip: The internet != srs bsns.
Peet wrote:Despite any grade of truth in these claims, the way you have conducted yourself in this thread was neither pertinent, necessary, nor acceptable.
But it sure as shit got the point across didn't it?
Edit: Notice that I didn't single out any dev in particular. This wasn't about berating engine devs (as I have said over and over and fucking over). it's about changes to the engine and it's contents (this includes portable and the installer) not being documented.
