There is no real list of such things in the wiki.
I started http://springrts.com/wiki/Lua_sync_to_unsync
and put the link in
http://springrts.com/wiki/Lua_Scripting
under "Other useful information"
but that is a bit fail as well, just as the whole structure of this "docu"

imo:

I don't like the answers page functioning as a repository for knowledge we now have 2! places to check for answers beyond here on the forums. It is good to have a place to discuss things but I think it is a terrible decision to not just make that answers thing a subforum.

Article and discussion must be seperated.
Forum threads do not allow for that. There might be a usefull post on page 5 that is lost in general chatter.
I don't like the answers page functioning as a repository for knowledge
how else should it function?

Problem with wiki is, that (atm and in near future) there is no good index / table of contents.
So if you make springrts.com/wiki/GadgetToWidget but no page links to it, it is hard to find. Also on the wiki is so much non-dev stuff like games description, guides etc. that even if the search was working it would be hard to find the article.
Wikipedia is nice because important words are links to other related articles. Not so in spring wiki.

It is good to have a place to discuss things
Yes yes. But to archive all this dicussing that will become mostly unimportant in few months is not good.

I like the forumposts as info storage least because only OP can update them and they contain lots of OT, also again hard to search.

http://springrts.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=67&t=7571
FAIL THREAD.
Why can not every question have its own thread at least?

On the other hand, Answerpage has no "offtopic", is searchable, is moderated, has tags that lead to related questions etc.

But where you put it is not as important as putting it somewhere. Just do not make double content. ie if you make a wiki article you could make a topic to discuss it/ask for suggestions etc. but in that thread only link to the wiki. And then that thread can die when everything is discussed and the wiki link can be added to "list of usefull things" thread.

getting offtopic. <- this.
Also "hey, nice guide how would I do XY" and then that post is answered to instead of integrating it with start post. In wikipedia you can toggle between article and discussion/comments.

ie http://springrts.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=67&t=24866
you are "forced" to read all the replies because there might be something important and turns out they are not really usefull. It is much worse in older threads with more pages.

Answers is far superior for what it's purpose is than a forum.

I
Will
NOT
PUT
ANYTHING
ON
THAT
SITE

it was created for dev <-> modder communication. Now you guys want it to be a new wiki. Fuck that, this is not the solution you are just spreading the data between yet another site.

Totally agree with smoth on this. I am not a master writer but if people tell me where things should go I cantry adding stuff to the wiki from the answers page. Feed the wiki!

In my mind if someone were to ask:

How do I make a button that can tell my widget to queue up a new order?

then answers is the place to go... ideally the response would be a summary/specific response (like a block of example code) and then a link to a good page on the wiki that gives an exhaustive/detailed description of the topic.

well originally the answers page was supposed to be for important questions that content developers have for the devs. Then it became whatever for whoever and then it became side community.

On this site...

* game developers -- ask concrete questions to --> engine developers
* game developers <-- help --> other game developers
This way it is meant to be a successor to this 57 page forum thread
Its like http://springrts.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=67&t=7571 but less fail because each question gets its own "thread" and so no mixed discussion etc.
Ideally, every time a question in #moddev, #lua or games&mod forum is answered, someone would compile the answer into something easy to understand & short and post it there. But we can not assume Spring to be an ideal sphere in a vaccuum.

Wiki:
List of stuff, ie WeaponDef list.

answer page:
How to use the listed stuff ie
"What weapon type/parameters can be used to make a flame thrower?"

I would not be opposed to the answers page if it used the forum login and was merged into the spring site.

you blame us for not moderating non-mod dev related questions out of it enough, but you want it on the main site, and usable with forum login?

you
i would like to add that what you say is also just wrong, as it gets moderated quite well in my eyes, just in unclear cases, the let-it-live strategy is used. it is a specialized thing for mod devving, not general spring stuff (talking about the answers site)
