Finally somebody has found Smoths weakspot and trolls him, out into the public, into the light, into fame and fortune, into the arena, olè del torro.
Now - i always wanted to say this :" No i dont envy Gundam, it deserves its fame, while journeywar is non-comercial, and was never ment to be for the broad public. I dont mean to emply that this sucks, i would never stoop that low, but hey look at smoth, in his shining smoking, the cigarr in his mouth, resting in his dollar filled pool, and you realize he is not one of OS, he never was, he is the reincarnation of the Gates. Just look how cold, cunning and strategic thinking he planned his success, playing gundam low until it was time to be "discovered".

;)
;)

I could go on for hours liek this. Panda mock him every day, so it dont gets to his head.

PostScriptum: Very impressed, tell me the issue and i wil buy and scan the article.

The #1 priority for you should be to deliver a 100% easily working user friendly online lobby that allows your players to play together, and some kind of link to your site.

Not much. (I take it your Lua is GPLed (or compatible) already..)

If you make an installer and didn't include a LICENSE.html / LICENSE.txt yet, then it may be nice to do so. (e.g. in your credits or so you could say the engine is licensed under GPL, see LICENSE.html)

Also if I recall correctly the GPL also asks you to include a pointer to the GPLed sourcecode, if you don't ship the sourcecode on the same medium (i.e. the CD).
(E.g. a small note like `The Spring engine source code can be downloaded from http://github.com/spring/spring/. Spring can be found at http://springrts.com/' would be more than sufficient, as far as I'm concerned.)

Anyway, would be great to see it covered, good luck finishing it! :P

Smoth, assuming you're freaking out and going into powerdrive working on stuff like I would be atm, let me know what you need done and I'll help out. Since I have the gundam svn I can do patches and whatever. I assume that you have a lot of gruntwork that needs to be done, and also speaking of gui icons, I made a bunch of really nice ones for evo last night using your included psd. They fit nicely with the ones already there so you're welcome to them if you want em.

So anyway, yeah, gruntwork. Lemmie know what you need done and I'll do my damndest to make it happen.

@knorke, Gundam 1.21 is very old. Gundam svn works fine with the latest spring.

They've also asked me for consent in regards to the inclusion of the engine.

I'm waiting on agreement from Tobi before granting it, but I think it shall be so.

Abbot Neddies blessing has been given.

But why this sudden rush? Why not pre-ask smoth one or two months ahead of time? Clearly somebody just stumbled over the Gemdam, and sended out a standard mail.

Do not let them pressure you into releasing something buggy, smoth, if something doesent work, cut it. Lobby not stable? Gundam is singleplayer botmatches only. Lobby will be later addoned.
Simply as that. Do not promise something, better understate the game, and upgrade later on. Things can only get better with mr.Smoth

this is excellent

could you host your own lobby using an older version of spring? wondering if that would be less work than getting gundam going on the new version

The Gundam from the SVN works with latest Spring, only pathfinding is awful, like for every other mod, but Smoth being a perfectionnist, he was holding the release until pathing got fixed.

Nice work, man.
Except I shouldn't say that. The "nice work" is what you've been doing for the last four or five years. It's just now been noticed. :-)

They dont need consent to do so, its GPL. Its better to tell them 'It would actually be impossible for me or the developers to refuse consent.'

Do it smoth. The only backlash you will get is a giant whiney playerbase, like BA has. But whiney players are still players.

It would be even sillier to have only the games on their DVD without the engine required to play them

I sure hope they'll use complete engine + mod + maps installers or zips, and not force their readers to go through the pain of building their Spring install from spare kit parts.
