Blender fails at math?

Post by MidKnight »

One bright, sunny day, MidKnight is up atop his tower of death, modeling. He thinks for a bit, and decides to mirror his model. Carefully isolating a quarter of his mesh, he kindly asks blender to mirror is over the X axis.

This is what MidKnight receives:

the piece in question is not mirrored over the X axis. In fact, as far as MidKnight knows, the piece is not mirrored over any axis!

Here is another image, which includes a cube that is mirroring correctly.

What is wrong? Is MidKnight doing something wrong, or does Blender just fail at math?

You can mirror with different centers....

maybe it's mirrored over it's own axis? maybe you rotated this axis previous... I don't know I have no idea what I'm talking about...

mirror modifier uses the object's axis not the global axis

if you do CTRL+A and apply scale and rotation to object data it should work

A great ceremony is underway! A brave and wise warrior, hailing from the Land of No Sleep, has discovered a method through which Blender may be made to properly follow MidKnight's earnest commands. Confetti streams from atop his mighty tower, and all is well as Thesleepless receives MidKnight's commendations, faced on all sides by throngs of applauding subjects. The stars twinkle softly in the air.

thanks, thesleepless. :-)
