I hoped this topic would be about discovering unusual voices, not about over-marketed mainstream pop singer with digitally corrected voice.
:| Well then, you're just setting yourself up for disappointment. I'm not sure why you would expect that at all. You didn't start this topic and there's nothing wrong with me saying that I like this singer and that her style of music appears to be related to other previously mentioned singers.

Besides, Katy is still pleasant to listen to and she does have a descent amount of skill even if she digitally corrects her voice as is common practice for a lot singers today.

There are no not digital reworked voices out there anymore, even in what is pathetically still called independent. And it has positive sites.. soon everybody will be able to sing, because the software runs on any x-boxxy..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWZrpuH3 ... L&index=24
Voices like TracyChapman that were like Treasure to discover, have become rare.. usually because we have this "the musician has in addition to be beautifull" image implanted into our minds

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxPZh4AnWyk
Maybee it is all one big swindle, but notice one thing on many classic music concerts, the best voices are not the most beatifull singers.. no anna netrebko is on the ignore list.. sugarcoated shit that is.. so if you are in it for good voices, are you really searching for that... only? Or has it in Addition to be cool, good looking, not well known, so you have a secrettip, discovered ahead of others, in other words, you never were in it for the voice? Cause for the Audio only, you can find it..not on the Web, but maybee at a local hero band, next door..

Some of them never will be famous.. and you cant get concert tickets for a punkband in a Squattinghouse.

Not true... Maybe for the music you listen to, but not for everyone. Most of my records don't have post-production like that. And often you can hear that too, but I don't mind, I prefer it that way than overtly polished and clinical...
If it was recorded in a studio, 9 times out of ten the vocals were processed. It's just the way it is, no if were talking demo type stuff, then no, not so much.

For one, EQing almost always happens on the vocal track. It's worth noting that when redorcing somehting with a microphone, are are certain limitations no matter how good your equipment is. It's still an analog connection.

if the live version sounds as good as the studio version, they really are that good.

EQing the vocal track? Well of course, every track should be EQ'd properly. But I thought we were talking about pitch correction not basic mixing.

I rate any musician on live performances because a studio can make pretty much any1 look good.

Katy Perry has some of the worst live vocals of any famous female performer that i have ever heard, though i do have some respect for her because most poppy female singers lip sync to backing tracks and fail

Im a fan of people with unusual singing voices beats listening to the same type of shit over and over again.

Such as?

I don't think that Katy's voice live is bad. She probably sounds better in person.

The girl in EE Jump, Sonim, has a lovely voice:

I like her voice, it's unusual and I think she does it on purpose.
