Hey just a general question as to map formats:

Would it technicly be possible to somehow utilize Terragen, or it's mapping format to make maps for Spring ? I mean just cause TG2 makes utterly amazing stuff ... http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.ph ... 4#msg55174

But i don't know much about mapping, so sorry if my question is stupid ... i only do grafics :P

Its probable you can export heightmaps from terragen, those will work fine with spring. If it can do top down isometric renders then its texture output can be used as well.

Oh, Terragen can do terrain renders of any kind VERY well. I was just curious because the newest version supports caves and such, which would be an epic addition to spring.
Though i think that springs engine can't handle more then simple heightmaps.

a render that is drawn with process priority on the render so they are always going to be superior to what we can accomplish in game. Spring has more happening than rendering the world. Which is why mostly the terrain is preprocessed with limits to how detailed. The terrain cannot be too detailed. Remember that the terrain is a giant mesh and we cannot lose all of our polies to ground detail. probably would be better to ask these questions in the mapper forums

I just asked because this thread seemed to be about a mapping format ... and it was just an idea for something else to look into. ^^
