I want 0.77b6 (split from: Make Spring depend on unitsync?)
and what about just fixing the bugs of the current version to make a stable release for once, instead of adding new stuff ?
Re: random thought: Make Spring depend on unitsync?
That's entirely off topic, besides that, the possible change discussed here wouldn't add a single new feature.

New bugs probablyTobi wrote:That's entirely off topic, besides that, the possible change discussed here wouldn't add a single new feature.

Re: random thought: Make Spring depend on unitsync?
I would be in favor of releasing one more bugfix, a lot of the reported bugs have been squished... and I'd get to use my nifty lighting code and not have to sentence anybody who wants to play P.U.R.E. to a secret Gulag of test-servers againand what about just fixing the bugs of the current version to make a stable release for once, instead of adding new stuff ?

Seriously though, that's an argument to have in another thread... say, the b6 one...
+1000, and just stick the defaults in there (oh, wait... it already has defaults, heh).On the topic of changing this relationship, it would be nice if Spring loaded its settings through unitsync rather than using whatever it was compiled with.
Re: random thought: Make Spring depend on unitsync?
This is one reason I harped on so much about installers. You argh have your own P.U.R.E installer, meaning you can decouple P.U.R.E from the spring release cycle and use any build of spring you wish. Granted this would be much easier if you had your own lobby server or the lobby server supported multiple engine versions.Argh wrote:I would be in favor of releasing one more bugfix, a lot of the reported bugs have been squished... and I'd get to use my nifty lighting code and not have to sentence anybody who wants to play P.U.R.E. to a secret Gulag of test-servers again![]()

Re: random thought: Make Spring depend on unitsync?
I'm fairly tempted to set up a Lobby server at some point, so that I can be officially de-coupled and keep all players of the game on the same page. Bit of a mess for Linux users, though- I'd have to say, "this is the SVN revision you need to compile to play with Windows people, tough luck if it doesn't work for some strange reason".
Not yet time for that, though, I'm still building the actual game and building an initial audience, and that's more important than worrying about support infrastructure. But yeah, I think that that's going to be the way to go- I don't see much point in staying with an official release version in the long term, I'd rather have control over the entire environment, what's in the package, Lobby clients etc., for a customized feel. I'll look into what it's going to take to host a Lobby server after RC4 is done, since RC5+ is where, with single-player missions and custom maps built with World Builder are the main focus... I think that the game will be ready to push hard at that point.

up
I've been afraid to read something about a 0.78 version in the subversion forum.
