@sefidel: Just ignore the trolls, disprove the sceptics. (Or prove them, whatever, your intentions are good, and you would have learned something.)
Re: New Spring Client Started-
Well, I just think that if you make a tool for an engine which is cross-plateform, your tool has to be cross-plateform too, even if you are not going to do the porting stuff yourself. So it could be cool if you are going to use portable technologie :)
Anyway, good luck . I really hope to see a great mapping tool :)
But I still think that you could add your features to an existing lobby instead of create a new one

This is what I was trying to say, but i decided to be an ass instead.
Re: New Spring Client Started-
You'd be a lot more valuable to the 'community' if you helped another one of the 3 or 4 lobbies that we already have.
Seriously, why start another one?

Re: New Spring Client Started-
why should i not make a new client. existing clients are ALL just mirc chatrooms. they dont function as a client that appeals to people who like blinking lights and noises. thats 90% of the people in the world dont play this game because the lobby client dosnt have a gamey enough feel to it. personally i think all the lobbies are good, but im throwing my hat into the game.
also, yes its a nice learning experience. i have done several protocols before my self but nothign quite like this. so yeah thats part of it.
people should have options. im going to provide a new one.

Good lord, this place loves to rip it's own heart out with a spoon. That takes talent to be that stupid, really.
Good luck sefi, I hope you're able to see your vision through.

Re: New Spring Client Started-
i dont think sefi can pull it out personally cause hes so fail but i hope he proves me wrong!!

Re: New Spring Client Started-
btw keep it windowed - fullscreen might be gamier but its also less functional.
Re: New Spring Client Started-
Sounds nice. Good luck with it. Not so keen on that player ranking thing mind, I think it'd be abused too readily.
I would love to see a ranking system similar to the ladder system but in all games. Maybe ranking up could require a number of hours in game and a certain win/loss ratio or ladder score.
Also, some statistical display would be great of e.g. Arm and Core victory percentages (selectable by mod).

i was considering making some minor stats, like weekly when you play the most, long term play, etc etc.Crayfish wrote:Sounds nice. Good luck with it. Not so keen on that player ranking thing mind, I think it'd be abused too readily.

not if the part you are interested is already done. Fuck you guys are stubborn. Yeah sure he could learn a few things but it might not be what he wants.Hobo Joe wrote:And helping another one isn't learning?smoth wrote:learning experience.Hobo Joe wrote:Seriously, why start another one?
Fact of the matter is he might want to make his own mistakes so he can be aware of the pitfalls. The thing that drives me nut about all this is most of the people condemning him could go and help others instead of telling him what he should go do with himself. Look, it isn't your right. It would be different to say, you'll run into this roadblock or not but to tell someone what they should do with their time. PISS ON THAT.
Again, I am not a huge fan of sefi, I am only making this argument about PRINCIPLES.

Re: New Spring Client Started-
Irc chatrooms look like a fine solution to the problem. Depends what kind of bells and whistles you want to implement, of course. I assume you want to leave compatibility with the other lobbies too. Maybe it is a good idea to let lobbies allow for lua scripting as well.sefi wrote:why should i not make a new client. existing clients are ALL just mirc chatrooms. they dont function as a client that appeals to people who like blinking lights and noises. thats 90% [...]
Also, if no-one ports it to linux, people using those platforms might just not use that lobby. It is just a simple practical concern.(Mono can deal with C#, DirectX probably a problem.) Personally i think it would probably better if you tried working on one of the existing lobbies, but i must say that i might just as well fall in the same trap, wanting to start over. (Coding is more fun then reading code too.)
But i think we have been over this, so lets not repeat ourselves any worse. Sefidel can decide for himself.
@smoth: you can also learn from reading the code.
Re: New Spring Client Started-
Quit whining about DirectX, he can write it in whatever he wants, and if he or someone else is interested, port it to Linux using something else like OpenGL or SDL[if anyone still uses that?]. Worse come to worst...use WINE.
And trib+trollcompany, seriously get the fuck off Sefidel's case. A man is spending some serious time and effort working on a project which may end up benefiting the entire community. No reason for you to spout your bullshit here.

Re: New Spring Client Started-
I've talked to sefidel on this issue and we both have the same opinion.Hobo Joe wrote:And helping another one isn't learning?smoth wrote:learning experience.Hobo Joe wrote:Seriously, why start another one?
You guys all love each other up way to much, and when someone like sefidel comes along, that has the ability to build a client like this and dosen't take part in your group bonding session you start bitching.
Already people have made comments on how things wont work and get abused through his ideas of a client .
He doesnt want to be part of a client dev team that tells him what he can and can't do.
If I had the programming skills, the last thing i'd do is ask for help from people in this community because your all stuck in your old ways.
Edit: I also love how people who told sefidel that his idea of a client was joke, have magicly started to give postive comments.

Re: New Spring Client Started-
I think you guys might be overreacting a tad.
the most that's been said is that the goals look out of reach and theres already a bunch of lobbies, no reason to go shouting this community is a stack of dicks over and over.
It's getting to a point where you can't say anything without starting a shit storm.

No offense, but you are assuming too much here..Spawn_Retard wrote: that has the ability to build a client like this
Note that most skeptical are people who actually CAN do something... Satirik, AF, etc.. And this is no coincidence..
He might fool average Joe .. but he wont fool experienced coders.
- That stuff with XML - complete nonsense - and springie already supports multiple clan-membership-balancing + what Regret said about unique ID.
- Ranking - that has to be implemented server side
- need for "sendkeys API expert" - I assume he read springie code and found stuff which sends keys to spring to control it, this is pretty much outdated and you dont need expert to understand 1 basic Win API sendmessage function.
- his "demo" code displaying VB.NET code though stated language was C#, poorly written (non-descriptive variable names, no indent) and doing nothing groundbreaking - purpose of it being included in post is beyond me. Probably to show that he can write some code, which can do anyone reading this post after 1 hour of training.
- "success" of moving most tasclient command to functions - well thats like basic stuff you need to do and I assume he just took it from springie since it already contains it (and in C#). It would certainly account in much less than 1% of work needed for such client.
- aim to use DirectX for absolutely no reason. For map making tool you don't need anything more powerfull than standard windows GDI function which are portable to mono (not even OpenGL, you just need standard 2d painting)
- past experiences with Sefidel as troublemaker and his claims, threatening to attack/hack lobby system, threats to use springie as malicious tool, claim that he finished P2P system for map/mod downloads etc.
No sorry, he can't fool me, but thread is fun..
If sefidel ever finishes the client with all these functions I will make huge post where I apologize, but until then this thread is just a parody for me :)
