Concept - "Artist"
hi guys, I think I know most of you by name and avatar already. I've been following spring art development for over a year, but so far never decided to register. Not quite sure what made me change my mind.
I used to work on a hobby-RTSG myself, as lead coder and only artist. Although I am not nearly as good with 3D as most of you guys here. I just never really had the patience for real detail, but enjoyed making complicated stuff (weird robot movements...). I've got a link in the signature to some of the art that remain from the project, but its all 2D. It would be highpoly stuff anyway, I never cared if I could use less polys, as it was rendered anyway.
I'm currently coding too much, got too many (likely never profitable) projects I am working on, plus working properly :) ... so I dont see myself sitting in front of the computer and modeling. What I would kind of like to start doing again, is drawing. So if anyone is interested in some concept stuff... Not offended if no one is interested, as I haven't even got anything lying around to show.

Re: Concept - "Artist"
Hmm. The stuff under Hightech looks pretty random, but Robot has a pretty consistent style. Not sure any of it would fit in with existing mods, but it seems like a good start to a new faction of a new mod.
Re: Concept - "Artist"
talk to saktoth of CA. They can use a concept artist.
Re: Concept - "Artist"
CA is always looking for any kind of artists or contributors. Texture artists especially, but also modellers and concept artists.
Pictures of the mod currently:

Here is some of our current concept art:

We are a GPL mod, so anything you make for us would need to be released under a GPL compatible licence (This basically means the content is free and stays free).
Our website where most of our development happens is here:
http://trac.caspring.org/wiki
We can be found in #CA in the client (type /j #CA).

Re: Concept - "Artist"
It also uses the bloom shader yes no mabye?
And yeah, CA would welcome you as a concept artists. We want to get rid of all the OTA units, and not just with TA remodels. We want new designs for Arm and Core (AKA Nova and Logos, in the future) so if you want to do up a few units using our existing specs (http://trac.caspring.org/wiki/StylisticRedesign) that would be great.
Also (http://trac.caspring.org/wiki/GraphicalDesignDocument) is a good read for what makes good graphics in general.

Re: Concept - "Artist"
@REVENGE: yeah it is a little random and that has been criticised before. but humans are a species that produce very random stuff, if it does the job
... evolution tends to do the same. The 4 races in the RTS are so far away from eachother in design, so that this randomness still stays within a consistent boundary. but opinions will collide on this matter.
@Kaine: will look into it, seems like pretty cool stuff your doing. are you converting units 1:1 (just with a redesign). Do you have a kind of todo list, with the units that have been completed and what still needs a redesign? I might of just missed it.
@Hoi: would you be doing me a favour, or would I be doing you one? I've seen all these units moving in a game (thats the one thing that really was finished
...). But sure you can base your mod on my designs if you like, but I would appreciate some credit.

Re: Concept - "Artist"
hi marc nice designs
About model designs for CA there are a ton left to do. Also they dont have to be just redesign/remodels of the OTA versions original content is cool to (imo i prefer original ideas) like spherebot is original and has replaced the peewee in its role.
If u log onto the spring player lobby you can have a chat with the devs :p a artist would be really handy our channel is #ca

Re: Concept - "Artist"
Sorry I'm kind of a noob, is that an IRC channel? If so can you give me the server-information? I havent actually installed or played spring yet
... I guess that will come as soon as I get hooked on designing.

Re: Concept - "Artist"
It is a channel on the Spring multiplayer lobby.
Re: Concept - "Artist"
Ofcourse I'll give you credit, I'm just saying, could I use it, and then, when I have those units done, if you want to you could make some more stuff, that I can make, or I can design the rest of the faction myself, so in short:@Hoi: would you be doing me a favour, or would I be doing you one? 1 You'll get credit
2 can I use your stuff?
3 are you interested in teaming up a bit?
I basicly understand this as a I'd like to draw stuff and would like it if someone makes what I drawI'm currently coding too much, got too many (likely never profitable) projects I am working on, plus working properly :) ... so I dont see myself sitting in front of the computer and modeling. Re: Concept - "Artist"
You guys really have to bastardize everything don't you
Re: Concept - "Artist"
I take it someone dosn't like the spherebot style.

Re: Concept - "Artist"
rattle doesnt like anything even his own mum
Re: Concept - "Artist"
@Hoi: as I said, you can use my stuff, as can anyone else. It would be interesting to see what you can get done! About teaming up. I can help where I can, but I am not promising anything.
@Kaine: I think the spherebots are pretty cool.
I have been receiving quite a few request already. I will just grab the things I like and throw the concepts in a thread. Where do you guys upload your images? I might just use the gallery of my own CMS to upload images and simply link to them. Any objections?

Re: Concept - "Artist"
CA has its own image host if you would need it for concept art :p
Re: Concept - "Artist"
I've decided to use my own CMS (I programmed the damn thing, so I can put it to use ...). It's the easiest way for me to upload the images and keep them kind of sorted. I've uploaded some older concept images, not too impressive though. just quick idea sketches, but maybe someone can get some inspiration. I also drew 3 new images last night, just fairly random stuff, as thats really the way I work... :)
