I think its best to let smoth be. There's nothing to be said that will do anything of use right now.

I don't know if I dare open my mouth, but maybe you can settle this argument by posting a poll here on the forum?

Multiple lobby clients is going to be very confusing for the developers, and the quality of the software will degrade.

Edit: It is probably best if neither AF nor satirik post this poll. It must be neutral.

AF... no offense, but you've mainly just gotten people like me to pay attention to the fact that most of what you've said you'd do never got done :P

Don't give us timelines, roadmaps, or blogs. Give us working code, or stfu. Seriously. I give you huge latitude, since you've always been a talker, but meh... quit wasting our collective time with this nonsense.

Your not a part of the battlehub test if you were you'd realize I've accomplished much more than is shown here publicly. After all your all still stuck on the plain old AFLobby which is an entire era behind.

Also multiple lobby clients isnt something really you can poll about. We've had multiple lobby clients for a while now.

Meh. I didn't even pay attention to AFLobby, because it was never really at the point of being a serious competitive project, and unlike SpringLobby, I didn't see a lot of progress being made, or massive numbers of people wanting to switch.

And no, I'm not interested in a rehash of your private code wars, or what went wrong with that project. I really don't care. Don't tell me about the past... show me the future.

I don't mind different Lobby clients, and I welcome meaningful competition in terms of features... but, that said, there are a lot of areas where keeping your work private hinders cooperation, rather than helping it.

I don't care about releasing the source, mind ye, other than for final GPL-friendliness... but get it out in front of people and get feedback, if it's mature enough to actually do that.

The problem I have with your huffing and puffing about all of this is that from my perspective, it's vaporware, and you have a very long history of promising delivery dates that never happen. I can live with people who miss their target by a few days- after all, I'd be a complete hypocrite if I didn't, given that sometimes I'm off by as much as a week- but meh, there's a difference between, "we know it's going to happen" and "we hope that maybe, someday, it will happen, in between silly-ass picture wars".

We have major issues here, that cannot get resolved in this situation. We cannot arrive at working standards for a lot of the gameplay stuff (y'know, the stuff that matters, beyond making things more convenient for users) until everybody's cards are on the table. If I have to pick between supporting a client that's well-tested and relatively bug-free, vs. something I haven't seen operating... that's an easy choice.

So get it tested and debugged in public, or open up a private Beta with as many people as you can rope into it.

But quit picking fights with Satirik until you have done that. It serves nobody's interests. It doesn't make your case for a meaningful roadmap or intra-project cooperation, when the other two projects don't even know what they're competing with, or why you're even yelling at them. Quit being fussy about them emulating anything you do that's decent- that's just how it works, and keeping secret won't help a lot, given the proposed use. This isn't like a game, where keeping it somewhat under wraps is helpful to final presentation- this is a tool, and tools need public feedback, both good and bad, from day one, imo.

You wouldn't let people move into a house that's half built, why do the same with a lobby program?

Um, you can view a house that's half-built. You can look at the foundation of a house that's half-built. You can... you get it.

Stop issuing excuses. It's either vaporware, or it's something that people can test. You're falling for the classic trap of perfectionists everywhere, AF- not showing people your work when it's not perfect in your mind. I don't care if it crashes half the time, frankly- what we should be seeing is whether it's half as nice as your hype would have us believe, and based on that, whether we should take you seriously, when you ask for accommodation.

Nobody else gets away with hyping vaporware, AF. Why should we make an exception here?

http://www.google.com/search?q=release+ ... ease+often
(also note that "release late release rarely" has much less hits :-))

Battlehub tests ended shortly ago, I have shown people it, and nwo tis entered into another development phase to take the under the hood enhancements and pull them into the GUI.

Ive found that releasing unfinished builds of AFLobby was counter productive, people would judge the finished product that has yet to be made by the version they tested, so the brand new version with bells and whistles I released would be dismissed because of the old version that came before it.

And I did say did I not in another thread in the very first post an apology for predicting deadlines and ETAs which where wildly optimistic did I not? And did I not say something similar in my recent blog post?

But most importantly, battlehub is not confined to spring like the other lobbies, how do you not know I have people else where testing? You don't.

I would just release all of the lobbies as part of the distribution.

That way no one will complain about not having the lobby they want.

Also, it will put pressure on the lobby developers to make sure that the one they developed is updated for the new version of Spring if it is not working

I like all of the lobbies, but I understand that maintaining the tasclient is going to become tougher as time goes on without someone owning the build tools for it.

Argh, don't waste your time convincing AF unless you like gray hair.
