Re: Channel icons
I cant find any libraries to support apng. I'll accept an apng as long as it has a .png file extension, but it'll only show the initial frame of the animation since its a backwards compatible format.
Re: Channel icons
You knew I was working on stuff like this and spring lobby were thinking of it too, yet you went and defined your own stuff anyway?!
I've been going on about channel icons for weeks now, working in my own time laying down foundations and supporting structures, and you spring this on us all out of nowhere without asking anybody or discussing any of it.
You should have discussed this. Anything that exposes an API that's for features that aren't specific to your lobby should be discussed otherwise we end up with rival formats and divisions.
what the hell ?? can you please stop that system so we can have a proper one ?

You realize this topic is 15 weeks old?Satirik wrote:You knew I was working on stuff like this and spring lobby were thinking of it too, yet you went and defined your own stuff anyway?!

Re: Channel icons
huh?
Can you please use the quotes function?
Also I don't see the relevance since this is not a spring API or a server API it is a battlehub API. The icons reside in battlehub folders and are only used by Battlehub clients. Your just looking for trouble satirik.

Re: Channel icons
Satirik defined 2 APIs, one for skins which was tasclient specific, and one for campaigns and missions. It was the campaigns and missions API he developed without telling anybody and that is what my post was referring to.
Battlehub channel icons however where openly discussed here before their implementation in another thread and developed purely for battlehub. An offer of correspondence to discuss a standard for multiple lobbies was made but not taken by anybody in those threads.
But rather that satiriks action actually negated a tonne of his own arguments against me in that thread is what miffed me.

Re: Channel icons
whats about recognizing channelicon:http://whatever.whatever.com/whateverelse/image.png
in channel topic, and using as channel icon? also reloading if url changed.
(When you send "channels" message to server, you get back topics of all channels too)

Re: Channel icons
I like the idea, but the channel topic really isn't the place for meta-data, IMHO. Would extending the protocol (e.g., add a CHANNELICON command pair) be out of the question?dizekat wrote:whats about recognizing channelicon:http://whatever.whatever.com/whateverelse/image.png

Re: Channel icons
In battlehub channel icons are pngs 256x256 ideally, and theyre shown in channel listings. Thats a lot of CHANNELICON commands.
Then there's the lack of moderation or quality control that adding a url to the topic would bring. Someone could put up goatse channel icons.
Remember when peet put up pumpkin goatse and a 17,000x1 png image in the channel topic of #wg to mess up AFLobby channel listings? Imagine resizing a png image bomb into a 64x64 icon? The moderators refused to act over the first round as it was a private channel and topics are a part of private channels despite their public accessibility. The same issue would arise here and channel operators would be able to put up porn and image bombs and get away with it.

adding icons could be restricted to moderatorsAF wrote:In battlehub channel icons are pngs 256x256 ideally, and theyre shown in channel listings. Thats a lot of CHANNELICON commands.

Re: Channel icons
Indeed. As much as you ask a Moderator to register a channel for you, would be easy enough to just have same rules apply to channel icons.
" Can I register this icon for my channel please? "

Edit: Fair Nuff
We don't call it phailclient (sometimes phlailclient, or just plain failclient does the trick) for nothing.
