Ultimately that's my stance. I don't believe in ambiguous morality, but I'm not so confident I understand it that I feel authorized to impress it on other people.

Manored: I believe life is worth living, I believe it's probably the most valuable thing on earth, I believe there are objective rights and wrong to actions, but I don't grant anyone the authority to impose their translation on others. In my opinion, the purpose of life is to figure out the purpose of life, the exact nature of existence, so I believe people should form personal ethical frameworks based on their life experiences and stick to those frameworks. If someone wants to ask my advice I'll willingly give it, but it's not my place to force my opinion on another person.

I believe people shouldn't abort pregnancies if it's in any way avoidable, I don't believe people should ever choose to abort because a child would be inconvenient. In certain circumstances of course health concerns must be taken as prevalent, but otherwise, it's my opinion, that the right of the child to exist takes president over the convenience of the mother. However, Ultimately a parent has the right to abort in today's society, and I believe that because their decision doesn't directly effect me it's not my right to mandate their action. I might impress my opinion on a friend or family member, but ultimately, if they were to choose to ignore me I wouldn't believe they are evil monsters, or stop interacting with them, and I would never impress my opinion on a stranger.

Bollocks!

I'm kind of interested in what you think about gay marriage; especially if you believe it should be a state decision, and why the state is better than the federal level.
*Sigh* TBH I don't really care for gay marriage, only because of the fact that marriage as an institution is traditionally between a man and a woman. That said, I am not opposed to "Civil Unions" (essentially gay marriage under a different name) only to preserve "Marriage" as a traditional institution.

I honestly am not real sure it should be regulated at all. From my point of view is sort of restricting personal freedoms. I don't think government has the right to be mixed up in marriages of any kinds. As long as the marriage is with another human being then I can't say I care too much.

It is however better at the state level if it's going to be regulated, because then you do not jsut have one blanket for the entire country. It's easy enough to move to a different state if need be. Interestingly enough, los angeles and san diego are what I consider to be my home.

I have and always will hate Kansas City, and I curse the day that my family moved here. However, a lot of good came of it. A lot of bad as well. I suppose that would be true of any place, but the shining moments of my life is every 2 years when I can afford to go to LA and stay with my bother and his wife for a week or so and see my niece and nephew. Someday I'll move back. I make a lot of money, but my job is extremely difficult and requires a lot of brainpower. So much so that I'm normally drained when I get home and am too tired to do anything very useful. You may have noticed that 99% of my posts here come during my working hours, that because I just cba to think once I get home.

Man, I drank an entire fifth of vodka last night, along with a liberal helping of crown royal. Fuck me. Talk about feeling like shit. Was a great night tho :-)

I think it's a bad idea to have humans breed like rabbits too. Unlike butterflies, we don't seem to have adaptations such as built in chastity belts for females who have already mated or the ability of females to fly into the air in way that will kill a potential male mate if he tries to follow her (They don't often do this.). But, at least they're not like angler fish, in which the female absorbs all of the male fish into herself except the testicles which she uses later.

Nature has some strange ways of controlling its fish and bug populations, but I'm glad we still have them.

It's unfortunate that some butterfly species are dieing off, especially when current research involving caterpillars sniffing nail polish remover, turning into butterflies, and reacting to the nail polish remover by flying away from the scent when they're older, is helping us learn more about the cause of strokes and how to treat them.

Humans can use our minds to help us overcome many obstacles that nature presents to us. I hope we can also use our minds to prevent our demise from overpopulation.

I believe in gay marriage if anything it will shut them up. So what if your marriage doesn't feel special. What is the sanctity of marriage? The ability to say that a vagina or penis belongs to you? The LEGAL sharing of property? What is it? Because I sure as fuck don't get it what you people are on about!

I have been with panda 8 years, and as crazy as the two of us are we are steadfast and loyal. We have fights, live together and work towards our own personal progress in life while still staying together. Respecting one another's individuality while still aiding each other in growth.

What does marriage give you? If you are religious, then it is a union before God and you know what, no priest I know will marry a homosexual. If the sanctity of marriage is based on religious sentiments then you need to take that up in prayer. If a priest does marry a homosexual then you should take it up with the church! I think religious marriage is the only one that makes sense to me and I can respect it.

If you are not religious, it doesn't insure any sort of actually loyalty, people have affairs all the time. If you are worried about controlling your spouse you should not be married you should be castrated. THE ONLY reason that you should get married if you are not religious is LEGAL binds. It allows you to put that person on a group insurance or setup joint accounts. Get tax brakes etc.

Are you saying that a pair of homosexuals should not get the benefits of living as a couple? Why because they are afflicted with their uncommon sexuality? They cannot have children unless they choose alternate routes. That is much better than excess children.

In my mind, and forgive me for going on a limb here, this so called "sanctity of marriage" is just some bullshit elitist crap that people toss around. You want to say you are exclusive, done but that doesn't mean people will respect it, married or not. You want to be sure that the person is going to be loyal? GOOD LUCK! You feel that the GOVERNMENT has some right to butt in on your very personal love life? FUCK YOU. I hate marriage as an institution, I hate it as a legally binding contract.

If gays want to marry let them. Then we can stop hearing about it, because I am tired of them. I don't give a shit if someone wants to ride the Hershey highway or eat some carpet. I don't want to hear about it. Do you want to hear about homosexuality? I doubt it, if you are so incensed by them then stop giving them a way to play martyr!

I don't like the idea of being called or treated like "the little wife" by people instead of being thought of as myself because of marriage, as if I would somehow become a piece of property, if I were to be married. You would think that having something like that happen in a marriage, even for a religious person, would put a damper on the whole celebration of love idea.

Once again smoth, you didn't read what I said. I wasn't suggesting anything of the kind (regarding what you were saying).

I was saying that for the sake of tradition it would be nice if the "Sanctity" of marriage were preserved. Course, marriage has been continually devalued in the past 30 years so I dunno if it even matters anymore.

Do I give a crap, meh, I don't know tbh. It's easier to just not maintain a position and let the cards fall as they may. I agree, I am sick of hearing about it as well.

@KDR,
If you were to move to the US you would be in for a major Political Shock. And the everyone that you happen to be referring to does NOT live in the US, and regardless of how much they think they know, do NOT know about the different political factions here. Isn't the standard vs metric system enough of an indicator? Perhaps the fact that we drive on the right side of the road as opposed to the left. Any of this ringing a bell?

Do not assume that you know everything there is to know about US politics. By your definition, Barak Obama is a Conservative, which is just laughable.

Well i had to attend a evangelical Wedding on Sunday, one of the Ugly exports of the U.S. we wished we knew less of..

Thx a load Free Market (Memevolution at workx, the most radical survive) :(

There is no celebration of love, the preacher spoke about a hour of everything (Which in his Eyes was Jesus & Relations, God&howhehateshumansforwhathemadethem, Jesus, and thats it), but love or the couple who married were mentioned only seven times (sometimes by accident, i guess)
And most shocking, they wanted it that way.. the Meme is more important than me.. finally not even dance (way to much temptings for sinfull thoughts )... and there was this property Aspect all over, lifelong of curse... so this is what the very same people who are against Abortion are all about behind closed Churchdoors. No damper, because this was not a celebration of love, it was a celebration of Meme-Humanlove allover.. sorry i fired a little up, but the whole thing was so sad, let´s hope they get luck anyway...

@ Panda: Well, they actually forgot nearly about the Wedding while in it, just the usual Stuff "Jesus loves you, far more than you love each other ."

Religion is a Meme - Memes procreate by word, so the whole thing was a Earworm working his way into new Ears, using even this - what should have been a celebration of love..

Well forget it, i guess my sad-rage is at least good for the lulz ;) Come, out little Trolls, Picasso braught some Weddingcake (and this time it is not a lie) ;)

marriage pisses me off. Society pressures people into a institution that no longer has any purpose past relieving some idiotic insecurities that people have. (note that I exclude the religious as it is understandable) I am constantly pressured to marry panda, yet I ask myself why? Some people answer, "why not" or "don't you love her" oh so marriage is for people who truely love each other? NOPE.

That is the thing, maybe I should have a blog for this sort of thing but ya' know, it is just weird to me. I don't understand marriage, people say it shows that you trust someone, to me it says that you do not. To me marriage is as thoughtless as roses on valentines day. You should not do something just because everyone else does. What happens is that it is expected and then becomes ritual like putting on your shoes.

If it truly is a celebration of love then should it not be more then a standard ritual? Who says you cannot have a festive RED wedding, or why not let the groom wear white? I do not believe in marriage, I do not like what it stands for. Panda gives of herself, as do I to her, why should anyone need any more than that? What gives me any right to call her "mine" that is entirely her choice and I need no ceremony for that.

The thing that horrifies me the most is exactly the roses sort of thing. After marriage love becomes matter-of-fact, like roses it is expected and no longer has value. It is love, it is given and not to be expected, each day you should love that person anew as they change and grow. In married couples I hear the term wife, oh how revolting! Panda is not one I want to call a wife, she is my partner, she is there when I need her and she stabilizes me when I need a counter balance. If she were to become some "wife" then it would as a rose, some pointless sentiment. It isn't special, it isn't beautiful.

People get married and treat their spouse as a dog, no, some dogs are greeted more happily. My friends regard panda as one of the group and not some sort of organic pet! She is not mine in the group, she is her and the recognize her as herself. The day one of my friends say "your wife" will kill me inside. I would no sooner trap a summer breeze.

To me, marriage should be a private thing, your friends should NOT change the way the view your partner. To become a wife/husband should very much be within the realm of martial contracts necessary by law. The individuality of the person should not be lost and the rings need not tell others that you belong to someone. In my eyes having a ring on your hand should make you feel connected, like invisibly holding hands even if you are miles away.

Forgive the immensely mushy post I hate cliche' sentimentalities and frankly find most people are as thoughtful as roses on valentines day. Funny enough roses are also used by many men as an apology for misbehavior, or an empty attempt to celebrate an anniversary.

I suppose having a piece of paper (or a ceremony) saying that you are united with someone else makes people fell their bond is stronger.

One point of marriage is to legally recognize that the partner is the person closest to you (important for inheritance, decisions about you when you are unable to choose and shared goods). Another point is to reduce the financial burden on a family as children are MASSIVE money sinks and there's little enough incentive to have them as-is.

However, talking about sanctiety means involving religion as the word directly refers to a deity. Without invoking religion there is no such concept as "sacred".

Forb, your definitions of political points of view are about positions no politician in the US holds anyway (no politician is your brand of libertarian conservative). Of course calling Hitler a socialist is just fucking retarded. Sure, the word is in the party name but as the joke goes, every single word in the name "national-socialist german worker party" is a lie (not nationalist, not socialist, not german, not worker, not a party). Hitler might have introduced public programmes like Kraft Durch Freude but our retirement system was introduced by Bismarck, a liberal (not the american definition of it, the kind you call conservative) because he saw it as a necessary move to satisfy the large lower class (and take the wind out of the socialist and communist party's sails). A politician can do things without seeing them as part of his political view simply because they have to be done.
