Was Pl's Meant to be a reply to Hoi's? i dunno, but it looks way better :) Nice work PL. Are you still using SketchUP that i pointed you to
?

I really like that design, PL. Nice and simple, but very effective.

Re: Random WIP
Yeh i used to model with sketchup.. but it does strange things when you try to export to wings for UV mapping or 3ds for uvmapping.Pressure Line wrote:technically unrelated. an accident of timing ^_^

Re: Random WIP
sketchup is for quick geometric sketching - don't use it for any precision work, or anything that needs to be used in another software package.

Re: Random WIP
Yeah, they could use work, I guess. Perhaps a handful of simple cylindrical struts clumped together?
Re: Random WIP
The stable release, shaders were taken out of the latest for some stupid reason.nah, thats wings, shader 13
Personally I don't like the missile racks much, I'd prefer some sort of unfolding animation, kind of like the SAM site from CNC/RA1.

Re: Random WIP
Oh crap, I forgot...
Because I'd gone overboard on the poly count, I figured 'screw it, I'll make it into a player model'. The Jailbreak mod for HL2 has robots for one of it's sides in the next version (the other side, incidentally, are dinosaurs) so I figured I'd convert into a robot for their use. Thus, the waist. Then Argh still wanted it, so it didn't exactly become a player model, but it was definitely too high poly for RTS use... yeah.

Looking good Pressure!
Now, what's the best way to spend a dull Saturday morning? Why, model an utterly ridiculous piece of sci-fi siege artillery of course.

-The 'Default Pose', for ease of animation

-The 'Idle Pose', the MPSCW when not in use. Note the lock between the head of the chassis and the underside of the gun.
Presenting the Mobile Positron Siege Cannon Walker, also known as the MPSCW or the 'Big artillery cannon with a mech underneath', one of the largest weapons of mass destruction ever constructed by Corporate Azure in it's entire history of constructing large weapons of mass destruction. The MPSCW is renowned for two things: one; it's sheer size, and two; the fact that people have to redraw the maps after it fires. It's banned in practically everywhere, known to cause severe environmental problems simply by walking around and decried by nearly every member of the scientific community for being physically impossible (the ones that don't decry it work for Azure, naturally). Equally naturally, the military love the things. If you wanna be a warlord in this day and age, you gotta have an MPSCW. No-one will take you seriously otherwise.
The MPSCW actually operates using two antimatter cores. The first, really important one sits in the back of the chassis and provides power for the mecha itself. The second sticks out of the back of the cannon and is spent entirely when the Positron Cannon fires. It's then ejected and replaced with a new one by a flying electric helicopter drone.

Re: Random WIP
Looks like those claws are some sort of containment arms around some anti gravity thing rather than walking legs

Sweet mother of mass destruction. Now that is a cannon.

Re: Random WIP
GMN, is that monster of a cannon going to be used in a mod, or was it just for fun? If it is going into a mod, which one?

Re: Random WIP
I think that'd be a lot nicer if you doubled the body, or scaled it up quite a lot; right now the relative sizes of the weapons looks odd, but it's a cool design so I think if you made the physics of it a bit more reasonable it'd be a lot easier to accept as a funky design.
Also - bored? I've got plenty of IW work for you to do

how come you never tell me to set up my normals rattle? *feels left out*rattle wrote:Set up normals and practice some UV mapping GMN
Re: Random WIP
Because yours seems to have it's normals set up, unless that shot is not from preview mode (tab). Well then get to it, maggot!
