I decided to indulge and make my own hackney list.

Point and click

Sam and max hit the road / Day of the tentacle

Shooter

Mafia

Max Payne 2 / half life (and cs + dod etc that were the mainstay back in the day)

Multiplayer fps

Unreal Tournament 2004

Rpg

Diablo 2

Heroes of Might and Magic 3

Dungeon Master ( fps mode on the imp ! )

Racing

Burnout

Fighter

Guilty Gear

planes / flying

Crimson skies

Sports

Ea sports Nhl
Ea Rugby ( I got both of these games in a package for dirt cheap, I wasnt a fan of watching either on the tv, these games turned out to be awesome )

Dungeon Keeper (thats the name, unleash for a huge coincidence there is other game where you can fps imps) is not an rpg either, only has a few elements. And I heard the second is overall better.

I'd put FEAR in a list of the top 10 FPS games ever (probably in the tenth spot), but I wouldn't put it in a list of the best games ever by genre.

FEAR is like Half-Life? Well, that explains why I got annoyed by it so quickly. I tend to finish Quake-likes but Half-Life games just fail to be fun for me.

Fear isn't really like halflife at all... Fear is sort of like max paine/doom 3... with the addition of the most repetitive enemy design ever.

Freespace 2 represents the Wing Commander style games, I think X3 represents the Elite style games.

A guy posts that DX:IW is better than DX.

One of the replies I liked:
Calling your opinion wrong was what brought the significance of the accusation to a text medium. He was stating that you have made a statement so wrong that even as an opinion it fails. It could also serve to make DX's superiority a mathmatical truth.
If IW was different, how is DX not different? IW was a godless rape child of DX's difference and the homogenous generic-ness found in most modern shooters.
Just because the buttons were different, it doesn't make the game any worse, you just sucked at them.
