do games impossible to beat count?
Re: Hardest Video Games of All Time - Per Genre
Impossible to beat, as in confirmed by the maker? Post anyways, I'll list them in their own category.aegis wrote:do games impossible to beat count?

tempest, gauntlet.
Re: Hardest Video Games of All Time - Per Genre
Interstae 76 - far from impossible, but could be very frustrating due to bugs etc, such as having to hit the ramp in level 6 at exactly the right angle/speed or get stuck in a big trench. Or getting blown to pieces by helicopters with no way of avoiding their missiles :/

Touhou?
Not really the hardest platformer ever made, but Jumper definitely earns an honorable mention in this catagory. As a platforming game it's incredibly difficult, but the difficulty curve is sane, so it doesn't immediately kill you 10 seconds into the game, or force you to backtrack for hours after a minor mistake. That being said, if you win the game with under 1000 deaths you've made an incredible achievement. It's one of the few platformers that just counts the number of times you die, as opposed to giving you a certain number of lifes, because under the latter system it would just be impossible. Despite being so incredibly difficult, it's also one of the most fun platformers I've played in a long time, so I have to credit it in that catagory, because it's one of the very very few games that makes incredible difficulty and incredible frustration fun.

Battletoads could probably be somewhere on this list.

Takeshi_no_Chousenjou doesn't seem to be the hardest, but it made me bring out the best and worst categories, of which it will occupy the former for now.
Big Rig Racers added, of course. Post more 'Tube videos!

Needs more Radio Zonde. Try playing with the default character (there are some much more powerful ones in the game but the default one doesn't allow you to kill everything the moment it enters the screen).
Isn't Zero Wing just average? There's a good deal between "lol intro" and "worst game ever".

the level you get locked in with a bunch of police chasing you, my only weapon capable of targetting the chopper was on red health: 1 stray bullet took it out, whilst extremely frustrating, i still found it awesome fun :)Cabbage wrote:Interstae 76 - far from impossible, but could be very frustrating due to bugs etc, such as having to hit the ramp in level 6 at exactly the right angle/speed or get stuck in a big trench. Maybe its because i was young and noob, but at the time i found the original prince of persia pretty challenging.

Rome Total War: rocks on singleplayer, tough its a mix of tbs and rts so not sure where it would fit.
Super Mario 64: very funny... cant wait for the editor to come out :)
Crysis: never saw a game from the genre (fps) that allowed you to do things in so many diferent ways ever time you play.
Warship gunner 2: Very long while not boring (You play 50 hours before
any chance of getting tired of it is born) .Extremelly high replay value (all enemies are reformed in the second play and you can follow a diferent storyline, while there are slighly stage and bossess diferences between each story)

TYRIAN TYRIAN TYRIAN TYRIAN TYRIAN
For FPS, I'd say DX if FPS/RPG hybrids are accepted, or Perfect Dark otherwise.
Edit: I should clarify that I'm nominating the above for the Best category

Perfect dark wasn't the hardest FPS ever made... It wasn't the best either.KingRaptor wrote:TYRIAN TYRIAN TYRIAN TYRIAN TYRIAN

I think he meant best.
Anyway, lists of hardest or worst games should be limited in some way, e.g. got published on a console or by a major publisher so we don't have to count every random game some idiot made on the internets. Without that restriction I'd say the worst game ever is Dangerous Vaults (not safe for linking, google it, it's freeware).

I would personally put halflife higher than max payne... but I'd put payne above perfect dark. Hell, Bioshock was better than PD.
