Installer size
Basicly,i think that making the installer a bit bigger by making all the maps and mods it suggests be checked by default is a good idea to prevent newbies to have to figure out how to downlaod it all seperatly when they havent even played a single game is a good idea even if they would have to downlaod some content they might not use.
Re: Installer size
Also what do you peole think about being able to choose to download throuhg the installer a much bigger map pack that will include a lot of good maps.

Re: Installer size
I do think there are to few maps played atm, but this would just burden people who always click everything with a lot of maps they'll never use.
also newbies have to figure out where to download maps and mods anyway, a better idea would be to make it so the lobby doesn't direct anyone to UF.

Re: Installer size
IW could well be 80+ meg when it's finally released, as much as I'd like IW to be auto-downloaded, I don't think it's reasonable to hit people with that - especially considering it's only one mod, and most mods that rely on s3o content are going to balloon in size quite quickly, resulting in a potentially huge initial Spring download.
It also strikes me as ambiguous as to where you draw the line at which mods should be included, and which shouldn't - what even qualifies for a mod, etc.
And then of course there are mods like CA who don't use the standard installer.
The check-box set-up we currently have is sufficient, I think. It could be improved by letting each mod submit a picture and basic description that can be displayed when a user selects the mod (that is, selects the text, not clicks the checkbox). A new player joining will have no idea what "PURE" or "Nanoblobs", or "THIS" or whatever is, so they're likely to just ignore it. A picture showing what it looks like would be very helpful for mods, I think.

Whats wrong with the current system? A solution does not make sense without a problem.

Re: Installer size
I think the current system is ok - I'd just like a checkbox to download the TA content. It sucks to either have to download an entire TA mod again or put everything in the right place yourself when not selecting one...
Re: Installer size
Without a problem?????!!!!!!!
man...how about the fact people think that spring is inconvenient?
That people dont bother trying to figre out about mods and maps and what mod should be downlaoded and from where cause they dont know what this game and engire are and they wont bother trying to figure out some obscure project?
Im not tlaking about the perfect state of things that is in your head, where every newbies know exactly what to do when they come into the lobby...
Im talking about what is really happening and to my understanding the lobby and installer are not satisfactory and drive people away.
The problem is,people not staying long in the community
not that spring is not advertized.
The point is to make people downlaod a bitmore content so when they still dont know if spring is worthy or not they wont be pressed to have to figure it out and learn how to use all the systems, the installer, the mods and maps, the websites and all for a single game cause they havent seen the game yet.
It is too much for people who do not know the project.

Re: Installer size
switch on cadownloader overnite and you got over 200 maps
:p
dont need that many maps or mods in the downloader just give people the choice of every mode and a inbuilt mapdownloader on lobbyclient and problemsolved
and a smal beginner mappack
pretty much how its done now with more ease of use..
Maybe have *A mods seperated in a different tab to original content mods
If you wish to download a *A mod it will auto install otacontent for you

Re: Installer size
When a lobby will have an integrated downloader many stuff will be sloved but tilland if that happens the problem remains.
Giving people choice of mods?they wont even understand complety how it is all structured and how iwll they know which one they need if this is the first time they downlaod spring?
Im talking about total newbies that are trying to get a game going for the first time.
