Power droids, when stuff runs out of juice (namely other droids) they come 'round and zap them.
Re: The Star Wars Spring Eyecandy Thread
But since they don't have to do that often, they spend most of their time ruling the galaxy.

As has been loosely covered in a number of areas, Star Wars Imperial Winter is set in the tumultuous period following the fall of the Emperor, when the Rebel Alliance is trying to assert itself as a new government, and the fractured Warlords are fighting for what remains of the Empire. Droids are in Imperial service, as the squabbling Warlords, seeking to gain a jump on one and other, have reactivated hidden caches of ageing battle droids, and started up long-dormant foundries. This does not mean that the droids do not suffer from the problems that made them a liability under the service of the Confederacy in the prequels (lack of independence, need for power supply, etc).
The unit you see here is one of those foundries. It has been updated somewhat to match existing imperial deployment doctrine - but it is essentially clone-wars era factory technology, designed for producing generally clone-wars era automated war machines (battle droids etc).
In order to really get a feel for how this factory works, I suggest you check out the following in-game video:

Excuse the token Islands in War pics. Keep your eye open for another unannounced surprise
The unannounced surprise was not that the droid foundry is capable of hovering ¬_¬

That is a great factory. Finally a factory that is not a ta-style type with the units visible as they are constructed.

Re: The Star Wars Spring Eyecandy Thread

Also, yay, last rebel structure planned for the beta :)Warlord Zsinj on the IW Website wrote:Here I preview the Rebel Repulsorlift Factory ("Repulsorlab")
This is where the Rebel Alliance accesses it's main-line vehicles. Typically these vehicles reflect the cornerstones of alliance combat designs - versatility, maneuverability and surviveability over power and economy. The alliance is expected to move it's forces around on so many fronts at once, and really make every unit it has count, which has forced it to produce a factory capable of assembling repulsorlifts exclusively.
Vehicles accessed from here vary from the very light scouts and support craft to the alliances' main battle repulsortanks. Further, in what is an advantage that the Rebels may well have to regularly rely on to turn the tide of battle, the Repulsorlab is capable of producing two low-altitude aircraft that rely on repulsor drives rather then typical engines found on fighter craft. These two air units (though inferior to actual fighter craft), coupled with the reliable vehicles available mean that the Repulsorlab is a versatile factory that gives the Alliance a wealth of strategic options.
Also, just spotted that I forgot to put glow on some lights *Facepalm*, it'll be fixed for release ;p
