Re: Dawn of War 2
Looks like regular DoW with high res textures and loads of bloom.
Re: Dawn of War 2
Bloom: hides seams and shit
Looks decent. Was about time they do that, although you'll never know how much more they'll milk DoW. I mean there still are Tyranids and what ever else to make addons for.
After a second look the Orcs look like they're made from plastic...

Re: Dawn of War 2
Warhammer is probably the only game where a plasticky look is fitting
Relic said they wouldn't do Tyranids.

Relic said they wouldn't do Tyranids.

...which was the one reason I was looking forward to DoW2... (Relic said they wouldn't implement them in DoW 1 because they wouldn't be able to do them justice. Given DoW's awesome close-combat system, one would think it would be the best system for them...)KDR_11k wrote:Relic said they wouldn't do Tyranids.

Re: Dawn of War 2
The reason that they couldn't and wouldn't implement them were mainly engine-side problems. The CC system is fine, but to draw that many organic bodies all fighting in CC with individual and varied attack animations would be rather processor intensive on the DoW1 engine.
I think they will have to do tyranids in this one, if only to stop an internet hate campaign that would put Anonymous to shame.

Re: Dawn of War 2
I bet they're going to keep the nids secret, then sic them us on the campaign.
Cause that'd be cool. It'd be what I do. Keep it completely secret, then half way through the campaign, BAM! Out burst hordes of nids. And then, once you beat the campaign, you get to control them in skirmish and multiplayer.
Yeah, that'd be cool...

Re: Dawn of War 2
Beating campaigns to unlock multiplayer features is FAIL. Often the multiplayer outlives the singleplayer by far and if you delete the game and reinstall you'll probably want to go straight to multiplayer.
Plus in the age of the internets you can't keep surprises like that hidden, within 5 minutes the first people would post "OMG TYRANIDS".

Re: Dawn of War 2
which is why they'll probably do what they did with the Crons... have em show up late in the campaign and then have us pick them up in the next expansion pack...

Screens look very flashy but gameplay is a mystery :[

Re: Dawn of War 2
Wondering if they're going to release the other races as addons again. Basically they are selling the same product twice, if you don't count all the "addons". That's pretty smart.
Re: Dawn of War 2
You're making it sound like the game was EA-style incomplete at launch and needed the addons to be complete. DoW was already a complete game at launch, you just got entire new factions in the addons instead of only 1-2 new units per existing faction. Sure, they're selling you the engine again but IMO that doesn't really matter, you get a lot more content for that engine.
Re: Dawn of War 2
Plus, you got entirely new single-player campaigns, usually each faction got at least one new unit, various improvements were made. I really didn't have any complaint with Relic's approach, nor did I feel like I didn't get my money's worth, tbh.
Re: Dawn of War 2
I know that the original DoW was a fully complete game, I used to play it a lot. I was not putting the idea down, it's just pretty smart to resell the very same game over and over again.
Re: Dawn of War 2
Its the standard market model now. The Sims...
Re: Dawn of War 2
It's not really the same game though, the expansions are quite large (WA only had one faction but DC and SS had two each) and are enough content to form a new game on their own IMO. They can just be combined with the older ones to get more factions.
Re: Dawn of War 2
lulz they are their own games hence the term standalone expansion packKDR_11k wrote:It's not really the same game though, the expansions are quite large (WA only had one faction but DC and SS had two each) and are enough content to form a new game on their own IMO.
