Yeah and it's in the wrong thread. What ever...KDR_11k wrote:Is that supposed to be an Atreides sonic tank?

Ho ho, it actually was pretty easy, just took an hour and a half or so. Of course, if I did it at this point in time, it would be a better uv map and I would do it faster. I deleted the UV map because I had the textures all fudged up and stuff, and it looked pretty bad with my horrid texturing back then.Pxtl wrote:Very pretty, but I don't envy your task of texture-mapping that thing.Snipawolf wrote:Sorry, breaking my own rules here, but I just had to dig this one up.
I did this a couple of months ago while wondering about making an RA2 mod, and I still have a good bit of other models, as well, lying around. Since this is unoptimized, it has 1800 polygons, but could easily be less, or a lot less, though the latter would deform its shape.
SinbadEV, those tanks are flat-out sweet.
I love the bulky design and shape of those vehicles, problem is (and I'm sure you'll hear this from others) that there tons of wasted polies on your cylinders and some other small objects that could be optimized/removed without changing the shape and outline.

Not a tank, but it has tracks
A new thing from me. This is not a tank, but it looks a bit like one because it's tracked...

I'm doing them mostly at work because I don't have much to do there atm (this can change any moment though if the boss comes up with a new task for me), so I don't have anything planned - I do what I can find a good blueprint for (and that is possible for most of common WW2 stuff). If you need something in particular, just ask (like you did with the M-30).
Also was often used during assaults on cities to demolish buildings using direct fire. Was also used in the Winter War to destroy Mannergeim line bunkers. It was towed by special tracked prime movers, not by tanks of course - there were no tanks powerful enough to tow such weight in units equipped with this.
Why it's tracked - because it's too heavy for a wheeled carriage, plus tracks allow to use it offroad (to some extent).
Edit: Here is the same, but with 8-sided barrel. I don't see much difference though.

The design is nice, but I don't like the cage around it, it seems a little bulky and unnecessary. Coolness wins out over realism here, imo.
Also, agree with snipa in terms of level of detail, some areas are really highly detailed, such as the wheels (that detail could be textured), others are very low detailed, such as the person.
I think the detail on the body is ok, because most of it can be textured on.
