Model Competition 1 - Tank Models

Post by Snipawolf »

Model a tank and show it to the community.

Do not worry, this is merely for judgement and critique of your models, you will not have to submit more than a screenshot.

Rules:

-Need a screen or two.

-Preferably, less than 1000 polygons, or else it better be one damn fine tank.

-No textured tanks. If you have a screen of it with no texture and one showing off your 1337 paint skillz, feel free to post both.

Points of Interest:
A backstory, if the unit has one.
A description of how it will/would be used ingame.
A model, if you want detailed critique.

I'll submit mine at a later date. Have fun, good luck.

One or two hours in wings. Hope you like it :-). 791 polies, it was about 400 but than I put on the plasma mini guns :? (except there not small :-)). The story, just a siege tank, maby the upgrade for the Scorpion tank in HALO. It's use in a game, just look at it. It has lots of big guns. Do I need to spell it out for you? SIEGE TANK.

I am going to have to stop you there for fear of contracting 'the lame'...

:-)

The tank, however, definitely looks like it should be able to fly.

Looks like a Mobile Gun System with some ugly mistreated cylinders glued to the side.

I hope somebody can recognize this tank, it was quite well known in its time. I'll give you a little hint: it's fast.

You're improving a lot ianmac, keep practicing!

This was the Imperial Mobile Artillery piece that I designed drawing inspiration from a number of SW sources. It's essentially a hovering tank chassis, with a BFG tacked on. Note that the cockpit is intended to be right at the front, so it is quite large.

It's verging on being pushed to the scrap heap at the moment. I quite like it, but it's not unanimously liked among the SWS dev team, so it's place in the mod is tentative. A number of major criticisms is that it looks too back-heavy, and too unbalanced. I challenge that it it doesn't look stupidly unbalanced, it just looks unusually asymmetrical, which is perfectly fine for a sci-fi design.

Interested to hear people's opinions.

732 triangles.

I think this competition is biased agaisnt those who use textures for some effects and favours those who put all detail into the mesh...

It does not look too unbalanced and the asymmetry is fine.

There is, however, no attempt to resolve the massive firing forces in the design. If the tank fired in any angle about 45% on either side of forward the cockpit would get a pretty good view of the sky. \

As a result of this, the design looks pretty darn odd.

not really, if you look at it closely, its obviously a recoilless gun.not to mention its scifi, so it can have whatever the hell stabilising mechanism it wants ^_^

Another "competition"? This kind of thing does not work when there's no one willing to spend time on judging. At least do half-decent UV maps for your models.

Because this doesn't differ much from the WIP thread right now.

We are talking about aesthetics. The existance of some nifty stability management system is not going to stop something looking unbalanced

Also, the fact that it recoils like a motherfucker only dampens the shock. The recoil force still has to be resolved somewhere. Conservation of momentum demands it.
