I think what spring needs most is just ram. I remember my pc used to lag in big games, then we doubled the ram and it never lags now.

Your processor might have issues when confronted with large explosions and numerous units on screen. Celerons are fail.

Ewww... you'd have been better off with a cheap AM2/939 board and an X2 3800-4800, 1 GB more RAM and a good GF6 or cheap GF7.

60fps average in sauerbraten, on skycastle, with full settings, at 1600 x 1200.

While running a virus scan. >_<

Oh, and the video card thing. I put a $220 video card in a $300 pc. I've spent about $500 to play gmod alone.

It's not a benchmark buster, sure, but it should run small to medium size spring games fine. You'll probably find your maximum is around the 8 player range before CPU lag starts to frustrate gamespeed.

Specs don't count as players though, so don't worry about that.

[edit] It's worth mentioning that a map like speedmetal will be significantly more taxing due to the high number of projectiles and units in game at any given time. The 8 player estimate is intended for normal maps.

replace that celeron with a cheap pentium D and it should be fine for all intensive purposes. Itll extend the viable lifespan of the PC by a few years at least.

depends which ones.

A pentium D 805 did me fine for a while, although XP wasnt to keen on me swapping out the mobo and cpu without reinstalling it. Ubuntu was zippy as hell though, no modifications required...

My dell, the other pc, has a pentium D, [hyperthreading is amazing] It runs cool, thanks to some fancy fan setup, plus it's super quiet. This pc runs with the case off, since the video card gets no air otherwise. >_<
