You referenced LOTR, Dune, something which I haven't seen, but feel I should, Red alert and red alert 2, futurama maybe, Starcraft, Mote in gods eye/the co-dominium (nivern/pournelle. I like the one about black holes, because riding gravity waves is win), Supcom, TA, Homeworld/HW2, Foundation and Empire, Stargate, and finally, star wars.
