This is completely ridiculous.
First of all, deleting a post like what was in the first post is completely over-reacting because it's true. I have no idea how XTA is developed and released but having so many versions of virtually the same thing is easily avoidable and incredibly annoying.
If you're going to talk about AF being in BA games as something bad because XTA is a rival of BA, you're an idiot. How the hell does that make any difference to anything? He's pretty much always played XTA and EE when I've seen him before. Why can't you play both BA and XTA?
AF is prone to over-reaction but he's a decent guy who does actually do a lot of work. If you're going to push him with stupid crap like you have, then I wouldn't say he's over-reacted at all. This is just incredibly stupid.
Sorry if I sound overly angry or anything, I've just woken up.

honestly as far s I was concerned the topic was over with:
So everything was fine and done with, I thought.
So peet kicks me from his channels and adds me to his bots ban list, bans me from the forums.
He gives the following forum rules as justification:
I hold many people within the XTA team with great respect. I know modding takes a lot of time and effort to get right. I thought of elemental gizmo as a friend, to see him attack me here, assuming what I say is directed personally and with a malicious nature is hurtful. But I defended myself out of principle.
Peets reaction is overboard, ignorant and childish. It isnt wise to bear a grudge and I dont want peet to continue banning kicking and muting me over something so trivial. Is this because I dont want to be left out of his channels end of? No, not really, I can enter his channels at will regardless of what hocus pocus he can muster from a bot or chanserv, he should know that by now.
Peet should have explained what he thought was too offensive in his opinion, and snipped it out, rather than abruptly popping up on msn and taking an offensive stance. He shouldnt have started inciting lies in this thread and making personal attacks on me that were based on lies. And he shouldnt have overreacted and tempted to completely shut me out of every facet of spring that he could without intervening into other peoples channels.
Gizmo shouldnt have seen the worst in me and assumed I was attacking XTA. From what peet said in his conversation Gizmo had taken up a similair matter and was censored too.
And as for my suggestions and the outburst on wether I contribute more or less than the XTA devs, I do not think "I am AF therefore you must do as I say", I dont think I've contributed more to XTA than other XTA people, but that doesnt mean I dont have an opinion, and just because I may have an opinion doesnt mean Ill share it either.
But theres a stark difference betwen what I see in XTA and what I see elsewhere.
Lets say I have a small minor idea.
scenario 1:
scenario 2:
So perhaps when your scout mutator idea got shot down gizmo you were dissapointed, but your idea was considered, even fleetingly, mine was dismissed not even acknowledged. For any idea to be acknowledged the person giving it has to have spent an hour each day playing XTA and have worked for a major mod.
I know thats how it generally is, and I knowsome people dont fit that too, there are always exceptions and they know who they are.
Peet Gizmo, I'm not asking for an apology, mainly because I doubt Id ever get one and it would make everything worse. I didnt say anything to offend, and I'm sorry gizmo if it did offend, I have great respect for XTA and its developers, and I think XTA is great, but I dont think its perfect and I do think that there are some pretty horrible mistakes beign made with regards to organisation itself once you get past the creation of the content and balancing.
Peet, what I did after the post was removed was within my rights.
I dont want to fall out, and I wont bear a grudge. I will defend myself if attacked and explain things I've said if people make out I was attacking when I wasnt. I hope that you two would do the same. I'd like to see gizmo back in #xta, and I'd like to see Peet on speaking terms again. There's no need to lock me out, or boycott channels. I havent banned either of you from any of my channels, muted any of you, blocked your accounts on any of the websites I run or help with, I've just explained what I've said in this thread and corrected your misudnerstandings in order to defend myself.
Of course that wasnt enough. I wasnt hostile before that point, I hadnt seen ought hostile. At that point I had simply reposted something I thought was valid that raised serious points. Peet of a dithering opinion didnt think so and had removed it from the XTA forum, we were both within our rights. Peet doesnt even play XTA anymore, and hasnt joined #xta in a while so I thought he'd leave it at that, and I never intended for my post to be replied to save for discussion on how to avoid it in the future. Its not like I'd tried to offend anyone, rather to vent my annoyance at the issue by making it clear.[01:46:07 AM] <[]AF> censoring messups doesnt make a forum pretty, it incites low level resentment that resurfaces in the future weeks or months later, and confuses new posters
[01:46:32 AM] <Peet> for fucks sake af, i wasnt trying to censor you
[01:46:43 AM] <[]AF> thats exactly what you did
So everything was fine and done with, I thought.
So peet kicks me from his channels and adds me to his bots ban list, bans me from the forums.
He gives the following forum rules as justification:
I wasnt trolling. I was the first person in the thread so there was nobody to flame, and I wasnt flaming XTA anyway. And I made no remarks or insults to anyone. Those I specifically referenced were namely IvoryKing and myself, of which I regard IvoryKing with the highest respect and wouldnt dare to insult him.Step 1) Do not post anything that you think another could find personally offensive (within reason, aka no TROLLING, no FLAMING, nothing personally targeting, etc)

Lets say I have a small minor idea.
scenario 1:
Code: Select all
I goto #xta and I drop the idea into a message
*nothing, idea is ignored, not even acknowledged*
9 or 10 months later
*idea is brought back up and thrown back at me in a flame*
Code: Select all
I goto #ca and I drop an idea into a message
if its a good idea its picked up into the discussion and it evolves from there. The end result may not be my idea at all, but all is good.
If its a bad idea, its joked about and discussion carries on as usual. All is good.
I know thats how it generally is, and I knowsome people dont fit that too, there are always exceptions and they know who they are.

so uh this is because several XTA v9s got released one after the other when we had a 20 seconds left of the deadline to get it working for the 75b1 release? yeah we really need to remove all of them from the various hosts.
anyone that joined our games out of sync was instructued to delete their xta and was sent a link to the correct version, I reckon most players have caught on by now though.
fair enough this was slightly incompetetent, and my very first version of the sea balance was put untested into the beta where it was tested and found to be so unbalanced its not funny, but noruas fixed it up and sea plays pretty damn well now. we did keep telling people "IT IS A BETA LOL".
just dont see whats to get crazy mad about now its working, especially considering just how much work went into that release

This is an odd community.
Lame, incompetent flamers who don't have any idea what they're talking about aren't the problem on these forums. It's the competent contributing members who give value to the community who can't argue without throwing garbage at each other.
This thread features serious overreacting from all sides involved (maybe from me as well), and is simply ridiculous to read. I have come to the conclusing that text based messages get the worst out of everyone. I suggest working this out on Teamspeak, Ventrilo or whatever.

he posted it on the xta boards and it got deleted if you missed that partpintle wrote:The tone of this thread hardly seems condusive to a constructive discussion of the release process, i think it would be much more constructive to have this discussion on the xta boards, if, that is, it is even necessary to have this conversation in public.
it's not bad at all, maybe a bit agressive but xta development is kind of a shambles
Y'know i do actually read threadsa fore posting in them. I also frequent the XTA boards.tombom wrote:he posted it on the xta boards and it got deleted if you missed that partpintle wrote:The tone of this thread hardly seems condusive to a constructive discussion of the release process, i think it would be much more constructive to have this discussion on the xta boards, if, that is, it is even necessary to have this conversation in public.

To say XTA developement is a shambles is untrue imo; it is the most polished mod available, by quite some margin, the only "complete" mod with regular autohosting (much to some ubArleet springers' disgust) and has an active developement forum where suggestions are not met by a member of the dev team screaming "LEARN TO MICRO NOOBS" at any balance suggestion.
I was not suggesting we continue this flamewar elsewhere, more that we start a new discussion, directly adressing the release system.
I know at least one of the main XTA devs does not frequent these boards very often.
well I'm nobody really but this really sounds more like peet is responding to a bigger problem with AF than his original post, same with gizmo, matter of fact, I bet a lot of people have a bone to pick with AF... myself included... you all know AF "sicked" det on me for harassment cause I kicked him from MY OWN game? (for the sync errors he's complaining about, as I have no doubt he's still rampaging from our little debacle)
if an apology will settle this issue AF, then I gladly extend it and will be on my way, but bear in mind that it is the attitude, not the content of your post, that is in question.
and for anyone who's interested, this is an awful lot of how-do-you-do for a FREE game that you get to play for FREE, if you want to see ignored complaints, try EVE Online or World of Warcraft... see how much your complaints matter when you're spending $20 a month...
I'll fill you in, they matter even less...
this game has a very involved community and a very active dialogue between the developers and the players, which I enjoy very much!
I think all peet's trying to say is that to avoid a breakdown of this relationship, perhaps a cooler attitude is needed when addressing development issues.
and for future reference, yes I am a bad person, I'm rude and I'm in your face, but at least I'm honest and I'll tell you now, it's a free game, it's hard to threaten people who dont pay to play, so dont do it anymore AF!
thanks u all for ur timez kthx bai bai!

also yeah af overreacts and stuff but the first post is pretty decent compared to what he usually does
