Not exactly, it also depends upon pressure. What you said is only correct at sea level pressures. For example, at higher altitudes such as on a mountain snow can occur at higher temperatures.
For outside temperature purposes it's accurate enough.
Yeah, I guess I was being pedantic. On the same topic, there was a slashdot story about a planet that had water with an average temperature of 300 C forming into ice due to various pressures.

L├â┬ÂL, its enough accurate. We dont need super accurate system, because there is no such thing, like even light speed changes because of the gravity of the universe or something like that :D. Celsius is made for normal people who dont need any science bullshit.

Fahrenheit sucks IMO, its just stupid when it starts from absolute zero point, its hard to remember which value is the point where water freezes, does anyone really know? Well, i dont live in such countries which uses that system, so idk. But celicius is the best system for normal people IMO. If we want to make science, then we can use some other systems like fahrenheit.

Metric is for lazy people who can't do any math.

Converting from atm -> psi is easy enough if you know the conversion factor, and if you use it, it's not hard to remember it.

Centigrade sucks for everyday use, it's not exact enough. If you tell me that it's in the 20s, that could be everything from wear-a-jacket cold to wear shorts. (At least to a Floridian like me.)

I do think we need to start a real campaign for metric time, I mean 60 seconds in a minute and 60 minutes in an hour is SO ARBITRARY AND ITS HARD MATHS AND I'M A STUPID EUROCOMMIE AND CAN'T DO MATH OHMYGAWSH HELP ME MAKE IT EASY!!!11

In Canada we're frigging weird. We're basically fully converted to metric with the exception of any unit for measuring a persons body. I buy kilo's of fuel, drive KM to work, use celcius temperature, and buy sell meat in kilograms... however, I'm 6 feet tall, and 210 pounds. I don't know my personal metric measurements any more then I know how many miles long my street is.

That's gotta be one of the oddest conventions anywhere.

No, the metric system is for sane people who don't want to do any more math than necessary. Afaik, mathematicians always try to find the most efficient/shortest ways to solve a problem.

Besides that, why wouldn't we make it easy? I can't see a single reason why we should use an overly complicated system in favour of a nice, consistent one.

Abe Simpson:: "The metric system is the tool of the devil! My car gets forty rods to the hogshead and that's the way I likes it."

Woot for imperial measurements, really intuitive...

ask the frenchman ..
under napoleon (who introduced the metric system) time was measured in the following way:
a minute is 100 seconds
an hour is 100 minutes
a day has 10 hours

this makes a total of 100.000 revolution-soconds compared to our 86.400 sec an a 24/60/60-day.
its not that much of a change .. but it could get interesting if u tell someone to show up at 5:85 for lunch .. ;)
they even build clocks (yeah .. this mechanical thing) which go like dat .. da .. da .. dat .. da .. da .. instead of dat ... dat ... dat ..
sounts pretty funny, though.

at least im happy that every civilized country uses the metric system (you wouldn't call the usa civilized, would you? serious? ;) )

I wouldn't call any country civilized if I can't call the USA civilized.

Lindir The Green wrote:... It's just so much more convenient to know that 100 degrees is very hot and 0 degrees is very cold, than it is with Celsius where very cold is... like... -15? And very hot is like... 40-50? ...
Water freezes at 0 celsius. It boils at 100.

How easier can it get? Even for ambience temperatures...

Whoever doesn't agree with this doesn't know any maths at all.

The imperial system is a nightmare not only because of its troublesome numerical values, but also inconsistant units. For example, the imperial system uses feet to measure length, but the unit for pressure is psi, pound per square INCH. So, to do calculations, one must either convert all lengths into feet, or convert pressure into ps.... erm... f. Pounds per square feet, a unit which doesn't exist at all. And later some people finally recognised one of the advantages of the IS system, the prefixes, and introduced a new unit ksi. Kilo-pound per square inch (by the way this is like mounting wings on a hourse). What? Why not kpsi? No idea. This is so confusing. Really.
And back to the numerical issue, honestly, how many people remember how many feet are there in a mile? What about Nautical mile? Fathom? League? And how many pints are there in a gallon? WHICH gallon? British or U.S.?
I can tell how many nanometres are there in a kilometre up to 13 significant figures. 1 km = 1,000,000,000,000 nm. Easy, huh?
C'mon, it's the 21st century now. The civilised countries are all using metric system. Even the British are defining the Imperial units entirely on metric system. E.g. 1 ft = 0.3028m. Then why don't they abandon it all together? Well, 2 reasons. 1. So that people are still able to decode ancient documents (backward compatibility is a must). Second, there is a country that is too lazy to update itself (while still claiming to be the most advanced), and it happens to own more than half of this planet's military power. I HAVE NOOKZ!!! I PWN U ALLL!!! I LIEK TODO WHATEVER THE **** I LIEK!!!
Yes, seriously, technology level doesn't reflect civilisation level at all.

We can't make the change because the humans in our society are too stupid to ask for it...

And lazy..

See... Typical Human behavior.
