Whoever doesn't agree with this doesn't know any maths at all.
The imperial system is a nightmare not only because of its troublesome numerical values, but also inconsistant units. For example, the imperial system uses feet to measure length, but the unit for pressure is psi, pound per square INCH. So, to do calculations, one must either convert all lengths into feet, or convert pressure into ps.... erm... f. Pounds per square feet, a unit which doesn't exist at all. And later some people finally recognised one of the advantages of the IS system, the prefixes, and introduced a new unit ksi. Kilo-pound per square inch (by the way this is like mounting wings on a hourse). What? Why not kpsi? No idea. This is so confusing. Really.
And back to the numerical issue, honestly, how many people remember how many feet are there in a mile? What about Nautical mile? Fathom? League? And how many pints are there in a gallon? WHICH gallon? British or U.S.?
I can tell how many nanometres are there in a kilometre up to 13 significant figures. 1 km = 1,000,000,000,000 nm. Easy, huh?
C'mon, it's the 21st century now. The civilised countries are all using metric system. Even the British are defining the Imperial units entirely on metric system. E.g. 1 ft = 0.3028m. Then why don't they abandon it all together? Well, 2 reasons. 1. So that people are still able to decode ancient documents (backward compatibility is a must). Second, there is a country that is too lazy to update itself (while still claiming to be the most advanced), and it happens to own more than half of this planet's military power. I HAVE NOOKZ!!! I PWN U ALLL!!! I LIEK TODO WHATEVER THE **** I LIEK!!!
Yes, seriously, technology level doesn't reflect civilisation level at all.
