Yes your right it would be best if they still had the same old guys that did starcraft1, however that's not an option those moved on...... What's needed is young fresh talent guys with a vision, the best ones. I hope the guys in charge know what their doing at blizzard.
starcraft 2 is a second part in a series. people don't want innovation, they want to have a better starcraft, and there's nothing wrong with that. blizzard knows this and will try their damndest to make the game appeal to sc1 fans.
i do agree that we need fresh blood, but that's for new series. i'd be mad as hell if i loved a game, waited years for part two, and then the second part would be completely different from the original.
So they seem to be hireing in guys from CNC and stuff... shudder...
I agree that the "feel" of the game should be kept as close to original starcraft... but still remade to look cooler and freshened up...
In short it should be as different as the difference by any other 2 blizzard games, like WC3 is from WC2, or WC2 from WC1.
These design goals sound good, from the official FAQ again:
Many fans think they just want exactly the same as the previous game. Starcraft was such a perfect game that it's hard to disagree. However I think that a simply rehash that's pretty much exactly the same would suck. Starcraft2 can never be Starcraft1, and there's no point to have it that way either. The parts that need to be the same is only the perfect balance, polish and style - what makes starcraft so great. Game mechanics and content themselves need to be changed up tough - for the better. If it's possible or not... well see. What is StarCraft II? StarCraft II is the ultimate competitive real-time strategy game, and the sequel to the hit original, StarCraft. The game will include three completely distinct and balanced races, the Protoss, Terran, and Zerg, which have been overhauled and re-imagined with a number of new units for each, as well as new tricks for some of the classic units that are returning.
