Starcraft 2 announced
As everyone expected, Blizzard announced Starcraft 2 at it's yearly thing in Korea. http://sc.gosugamers.net/ has pretty much everything that's known so far. Here are some screenshots of the cinematics or something that were on show. This has the information live from the thing.
It looks interesting.

Considering blizzard makes a round average of 12 million dollars a day one would think they could afford to run a few projects simultaneously...hunterw wrote:wtf where is diablo 3?????????////////////
for reals. blizzard is so dumb, making this azn rts instead. i wont play because azns will rape my soul every game i play on it. i'm sticking to spring which is an rts relatively undiscovered by azns...
The more I think about it, the more I realize blizzard must be an evil empire. Where in living fuck is all that money going? It certainly isn't going into new game development like virtually every other game studio in development spends their profits.
Some random dude wrote it on gpg forums, hehe. It makes sense tough, I don't think we're seeing final stuff here.Boirunner wrote:how do you figure?Zpock wrote:Isn't it basically a modified WC3 engine their using for this show off alpha version, wich will change a lot or even be rewritten completly?
i dunno. why would they release a cinematic trailer if they play to completely rewrite the engine? anyway, we'll see. it'll be years before it hits the shelves, that's for sure.Zpock wrote: Some random dude wrote it on gpg forums, hehe. Uh cinematic trailer is just CG, it's not made used the game engine??Boirunner wrote:i dunno. why would they release a cinematic trailer if they play to completely rewrite the engine? anyway, we'll see. it'll be years before it hits the shelves, that's for sure.Zpock wrote: Some random dude wrote it on gpg forums, hehe. Anyway here is what they are writing on the FAQ:
I guess they will change things up alot, starcraft is known for it's huge polish afterall. This early stuff is a little meh...Will StarCraft II take advantage of DirectX 10? What other graphical goodies are included?
The game will be compatible with DirectX 10, and we're still considering whether there will be exclusive DirectX 10 graphic effects, but the graphics engine will also be very scalable to ensure that a wide range of different systems will be capable of running StarCraft II. The new engine is also capable of rendering very large units, as well as large numbers of units on screen together. Havok physics have been integrated into the engine for added realism as well.
It will be a hard time for them to try and top starcraft1 achievements. Normally for sure a flash of brilliance, even less one such as starcraft was, is never really repeated by the same company/person. However, blizzard have done just that before and if anyone they are the one's to do it. Im not sure a lot of guys might have left them tough, and hireing guys with nice credentials and experience (I read RA2 somewhere) isn't convincing me. To be honest, I consider most RTS developers these days unimpressive idiots that don't know what their doing, lacking finesee, hope they dont draw on that pool... look at CnC3.. What's needed is young fresh talent guys with a vision, the best ones. I hope the guys in charge know what their doing at blizzard.
yeah, i said that before actually watching the trailerZpock wrote: Uh cinematic trailer is just CG, it's not made used the game engine??

starcraft 2 is a second part in a series. people don't want innovation, they want to have a better starcraft, and there's nothing wrong with that. blizzard knows this and will try their damndest to make the game appeal to sc1 fans.
i do agree that we need fresh blood, but that's for new series. i'd be mad as hell if i loved a game, waited years for part two, and then the second part would be completely different from the original.
