It will only bring bad, either it will invite a lorryload of lawyers in the sue left, right & centre ro it will bring droves of PC Gamer readers in clammouring for more updates in a shorter period which will result in a lower quality game. I don't know much about the average PC Gamer eeader demographic, but I doubt that it has many people interested in following the development of a game.

That looked like a bunch of robots in C&C tyberian sun engine.... its like a comic strip... plain...
well its only art at this stage..
dunno what going on with me but nothing impressed me much.
those drawings dont have the feeling of it..
some of the gc2 unit models ... have the same... not right feeling... like made of paper... :D but they can be forvigen, they own on the tactic side.
Much more art and concept must be invested in that game to make it worth of a TA sequel.
You must be able to see the steel and the grease!! machine's suffering!!
The part that amused me a bit is the Gear section. nice gears, ala MW.
Good old robust mechs.
Maybe 2 or 3 years of well invested focus (and Spring playing
) can get them into the right track.
(coming from DS1-2). nothing against gpg, i love their games.
e: from what ive seen you cant tell if those are drawings (renders) or real 3d models into some engine. I think ill get the hard copy.

I say, let the PC Gamers descend in droves. Most will be turned off by the bugs, but enough will stay to grow the community. We'll even get a few new developers, probably. And since the #1 thing preventing spring from rocking is lots of people online, that will solve that problem.
When supreme commander comes out, I'm sure it will incorporate some novel ideas and interesting bits of gameplay, but open source is the borg. We are not fast at changing, but we inexorably move forward, and are not bound by budget or politics (and I'm not talking the occasional flame war here, I'm talking real politics). We continually improve, and assimilate the best ideas from elsewhere. Spring, or another FOSS project is the future of RTS's, gaming, and software in general. These game companies can scurry forward with their large budgets, but since they don't ultimately care about anything other than profits, people like Chris Taylor have to push twice as hard to get a good game made. We ONLY care about good games, so we inexorably creep up on them from behind, setting a minimum bar for goodness that will only go up. And Spring sets that bar pretty high right now.
The day we will have won is when superstars like Chris Taylor realize that their desire to make the ultimate RTS is better served by joining us, rather than dealing with all the BS that comes with all that money.

1) I don't see any hills. This worries me.
2) I don't see any new terrain types beyond the "tile" structure OTA used, which worries me more.
3) I don't see hovercraft which makes me sad.
4) Polygon count seems to be higher, becoming more happy.
5) Unknown scripting format/movement animations... hesitation now...
6) If GAF is used again, I will have to hurt someone.
Can someone model that giant spider thing for spring? (I'm not a modeler) I'd LOVE to see what a clone of that model looks like in Spring's engine. Really blow away people when compared.
We are Pentium...
Division is Futile
You will be Approximated!

I like the stepping on units thing. Do spring physics support force = mass times acceleration as a concept? If so, we could implement force thresholds above which units take damage. Then we could have units step on other units, or ram units, or other really cool things.
We would also need low res poly-based collision detection, rather than the sphere based collision detection that we have now.

Looks really cool. My only regret is, it doesn't look quite as nice as the coming Earth 2160, which is graphically awesome. No doubt the fun factor will be vastly superior, though.
BTW, guys, don't forget to vote for the PC Gamer "greatest PC game of all times":

*points to previous post*
Polygon based collision is a must at least as an option.
Being able to crush units under other untis is an amazing idea that I'm not sure has been done before save tanks running over troops. I say when this happens all death animations are disregarded and the unit is crushed and shrapnel flies alogn with fire explosion etc. Otherwise I'd see the leg or model part sliding to the side fo the unit and taking slight damage for both the stepper and the stepepd on. *See wreckage thread*
Grass must be improoved so ti looks more realistic and covers the ground better and simple effects such as dust/sand or rain. But with those spring is already much better than Supreme commander in terms of graphics.
The mosue clickign thign and the zoom out to satellite view MUST be implemented, they are invaluable tools, the satelltie view is an essential attribute for making huge maps playable

Not that I want to pollute the forum with SUPCOM, but here you can hear what the game will sound like.
Awesome.
