SUPREME COMMANDER - August PC Gamer - SCANS...Spring mention

Post by Tap »

Here they are..... not

OR

Hopefully this will tide everyone over until their copies of PC Gamer arrive in a few days! **naturally only those that subscribe to PCG should download/view these....i'll leave it up to you to make the right choice ;) **

Personally this looks like the dopest game since.....well TA, duh! Massive units, ability to ZOOM WAYYY OUT (why would I want to see a character's facial expressions in an RTS *cough*WC3,etc*cough*, massive maps, and for the love of god the nuke looks like armageddon!!!

Nice plug for TA Spring on the last page.....surely this article will create even more awareness/interest in this project.

Enjoy!

DAMN IT! We where making TA 2 and they had to go ahead and MAKE ONE THEM SELVES! THOSE BASTARDS!

That is TA2 right, cause is so... uh

See you later jerk wads; I├óÔé¼Ôäóm going to get a real game!

And if I was to make TA 2 it would have blackjack! And hookers! In fact... forget the blackjack, and the game!
Bah, screw the whole thing (walks away whistling the Harlem Globetrotter theme)

Even today, eight years after the game's release, several of the major mods are still being updated. For a couple of great mods that still show signs of life, check out Absolute Annihilation (http://www.planetannihilation.com/aa), with over 500 balanced units, and Star Wars TA (http://www.planetannihilation.com/swta) which incorporates every Star Wars unit you can imagine.

Caydr!! You're alive!

And that site... "33,973,865,717,760 bytes per day"

HOLY CRAP!!!!!!! 33 terabytes!!!!

Okay, read the review... wow... simply wow. My vote for sweetest image goes for the massive spider and the mushroom cloud.

However it seems to utilize the same old "tile" system OTA used. Thus making the terrain 2d.

And the even bigger question, is it modable?

Spring is open source and fully modable...

It also doesn't have a $10 mil budget. I should send my Resume to GPG. ^_^

Great, I'm interested in seeing huge units like that in sprign aswell as numerous other features, such as the satellite view which si reminicent of homeworld 1+2, and would be extremely useful on the newer epic sized maps where zooming out either lags too much or cant be zoomed out far enough. Eitherway they've made it a lot easier to manage large bases across epic sized maps. I'm interested in trying to sort out a simple base commander type unit with associated AI, though I'm sure the engine would have to change to allow units to be assigned a groupAI upon completion, which would also be useful for metal makers.

Where are your reactions people??
When I first saw HL2 a couple of weeks before E3 (was it three years ago?) I shouted out loud, but when I saw these scans I couldn't utter a word. I actually got tears in my eyes.
I don't know if it's just me being a sensitive person, but this really is something special.

Something which questions the whole point of the SY's efforts. As previously said it looks like this has 2D based terrain, and thus at the moment spring has the advantage of being released and having better camera, however there are thigns that must be incorporated from supreme commander and other games such as scarred terrain, explosions, satellite view (see homeworld for a good example), base commander type units etc.

Napalm was originally interested in using the groupAI to create player helpers, and I'd like to see more realistic units, perhaps if instead of staying stationary things like spiders and fidos could move sort of like slowly moving up and down as if the joints in their legs where springy (more adept for fast paced spider units) and other things to make them more realistic. Also to allow units to be assigned a GroupAI unpon construction may allow thigns such as base commanders but also things such as idle unit behaviour, construction units repairing nearby units when idle, aircraft returning to repair pads(if not already a subAI behaviour), more efficient attack patterns for certain types of unit.

Also wind on trees and grass would show a big improovement on green maps. New trees should also be modelled and implemented.

pfft now I am in competition with an industry standard AI, oh well more work better AI.......

And maybe if collision detection could allow things like those small units crawling under the giant unit in supreme commander??? Something for those with faster computers..

.

.. TASpring is a fun game... It's work in-progress ..
but still fun ..

I figure by the time GPG .. releases it in mid 2006 TASpring
will have its AI complete ... fully function GUI front end.
Also, the Linux version will be complete too. An I hope at
least over 200 new players or more by then ...

I see TASpring being as good or better by the time GPG
releases it's game next year ...

Excellent! Looks like a perfect RTS.

I doubt that this will change the project much...all it means is that we will have to move quicker to become our own game.

ok, someone in the TA community has been passing our secrets to PC Gamer.
Ok, who's the mole, this is your chance to own up

...

...

no?

Right, someone get senator McCarthy in here, it's time we had ourselves a witch hunt, commie! :P

edit: ok, if we don't want to get flooded with PC Gamer reader types we/you need to move the site.

Seeing as spring is still in beta stage I wouldn't have thought that massive publicity bringing bazillions of people who want to play only (and aren't likely to tolerate the beta-ness of spring) in would be a good idea. Did they ask before printing the URL?

WOW! Cool game! looks awesome!

But hey, this is ''Supreme commander'' (''vissle''corny''vissle'') Not ta2, or ta spring. This is gonna be a TOTALY other game. This is gonna be a great game, whit many fueters like ta, yes. But the most stuff is NEW! No nanolathing,(probaly) no krogoths, no pewees. Giant spiders, cool looking nukes and Lots STRATEGY whit units.(instead of resoruse war and right unit at right location at right time.

TA:S is gonna continue to evole! And we are gonna mod, and play, and show Support to SY... AND most important, we will have FUN^^

Also, it's due to crismas 2005/erly 2006? TA:S has been out for 2 mothns and is still a beta, but we have 6-8 months of time to fix all bugs, improve gameplay, and get rid of the U MUST HAVE TA stamp on the faq page.

and spritual succsesor to TA is coming! BE happy^^

It was amusing to see "Yankspankers" printed in a PC Gamer issue. :D

I should check my mailbox and see if mine has arrived yet. <.<

SY really really needs to update the CVS...
