discrimination based on rank?
I've noticed that next to no one will be even willing to play with a person with a single chev rank regardless of anything else. it can't just be a "slow day" if every room except a one chev or two chev's room is full. :P
I don't mind playing with the single chev rank's
But its not worth my time if they are hosting, they properly haven't port forwarded yet, and if the game does work they will be beaten easy and leave the game (taking the server down with it).
Even tho this isn't always going to happen its still not worth the risk.

Port forwarded? I haven't seen a single person, one chev or not, use a hardware firewall. =PRaiFox wrote:I don't mind playing with the single chev rank's

Port forwarding isn't only needed on hardware firewalls, routers, which are very common in home networks might need port forwarding.NightfallGemini wrote:Port forwarded? Plus I'm a 1 chev and I don't use port forwarding (cause our firewall consists of 2 firewalls on this machine, plus a networked PC and another firewall, and I CBA altering the settings everywhere on them both)....
And yes, I just said that despite my age in the community, I'm a 1 chev. I don't get to play much. for reasons above...

Re: discrimination based on rank?
There usally is some discrimination, because those people quit at the first sign of trouble - when there base can be saved. Saying that I see many higher ranking people (and stars) doing the same nowNightfallGemini wrote:I've noticed that next to no one will be even willing to play with a person with a single chev rank regardless of anything else. it can't just be a "slow day" if every room except a one chev or two chev's room is full.

I don't mind 1v1 them :>
Playing team games with anyone less then general rank is a little scary these days, the reason being that it just really isn't predictable any more. Some 1 chevs are OTA players and learn quick to hold their own quite nicely, and some 4chevs play a ton of speedmetal and suck ass at the game in total when you try to balance them in. I hate being the guy stuck on the team with the guy who can't figure out how to properly place metal extractors to get income when the other team has the 1chev prodigy that is enough of a challenge alone to beat.
It would be nice if we had some AA tutorials or something in video form that people could easily pick up and start with before they stumble blatantly around the game. The TAS user interface leaves a fair bit to be desired...

I don't mind playing with single chev ranks in small battles. And as Strategia said it is always fun to explain and help new players through the learning curve of the engine/client/mods. However, if I'm hosting larger matches (4v4 etc) with a lot of higher ranking players I do kick single chevs as they tend slow down and disrupt the game, and many others complain as well.

It would be nicest if there was some way of tracking win/lose ratio for each player.
quiting a game before it ends counting as a lose, to stop quiting before defeat.then you know from a glance if they can play the games or suck the ass and team them accordingly.
the main problem with one ranks is the huge amount of management they tend to need to play the games, really you should play the AI until your at least a 2 rank so you at least know whats going on.

There is such tracking mechanism - however just for autohosts .. It tracks all your games and can give you data such as your win % in given mod, on given map or percentage of games you quit..
!stats commands on springie can display some of these data ... there are already over 500 games in database http://www.unknown-files.net/stats/games.php

Ranks need to be more detailed for sure.
A WIN/LOSS ration would be a good start, the problem would be in getting a solid system in place to track it.
If its possible, a way to use the HOUR based ranking + a WIN/LOSS ratio would be even more usefull, but would be tricky.
TBH though, when I look back at the games I enjoyed the most, it was when ranks didn't exist, everyone was equal and all this Rank Segregation wasn't part of the every day cycle of finding a good game to play.
Back then, everyone just played to play, and it was the anonymity that created a much more enjoyable experience.
Its becoming pretty sad when the 1337 team stacking, and noob hating has gone this far.. It feels like the CouterStrike Community around here somedays.
You ppl know what I'm talking about too, the I am Holier than Thou Art attitude with some players in Spring makes it a nightmare for a new player or even a veteran to get into an enjoyable game anymore.
If there was a WIN/LOSS rank system in place, a fair autobalence system would be alot easier to acomplish.
