Hello,

my name is Jens van Dijk. I'm a german game developer am I'm studying graphics here in germany. I'm also the leader of a big game designer community, which is called "Gamez Interactive". There you will find musicians, programmer, designer, sound designer and voice actors.

A short time ago I found your website and played TA Spring for such a long time.

Thereupon I made some maps for the game which can be found here: http://crossfire.gamez-interactive.de

I'm in contact with a game publisher who could maybe publish your game, so I want to ask you, if you are interested in joining our developer team "GameZ Interactive"? The are a lot of vantages for you: We have many talented designers who are very interested in making new graphics for TA Spring as well as musicians and voice actors who are also very interested in recording some voice samples and producing new songs for the game.

Here are some voice samples which are produced by our voice actor, as well as some graphics which gives you a first impression.

Wow, spring being published? Shouldnt they wait for OSRTS? Besides, the art and sound is dependant on the Modder, so this isnt really related to development, is it?

[Edit] Aren't the bos/cob/textures/sounds/everything owned by Atari? You should probably contact them (only dont, because ATM they might not know about Spring).

I sense spring's impending doom as Atari sues the pants off SY.

Um, why are you offering a publishing deal to an opensource project that is basically a new engine for a proprietary game? You'd have to not only get the engine (well, you can get that for free since it's opensource) but some mod to publish as well. You'd also have to make sure all traces of Atari's copyright are purged from the data.

Sins spring is free, all you need to do is make a legal mod/campaign and you can sell the mod/campaign all you want - I think.

You never searched UF, Bhaal.

I think FoeOfTheBee and Argh are on the money - I doubt the engine will be privatized, but feel free to make a legal mod and release it.

I haven't said anything about this yet, lol ;)

At any rate... Spring is GPL. You can very easily just take Spring, make a neat game with the engine, rename it whatever you want, and publish it.

If Spring's development ceases because the lead developers join this publisher or whoever next pops out of the woodwork, I will immediately start hosting the sourcecode, which I keep updated via SVN just like the developers do, and seek new developers. Or whatever it takes. Not that I think that's going to happen, but meh.

In short... you guys wanna make a game? Great... make a game! You want to own the rights to Spring? No can do- that's what GPL is about, and one of the main reasons I am here :-)

The problem si that this sor of assumes that XTA + Spring are the same project.

We have a small set of core devs runnign the engine and developing it (3/4's of which are getting ready to rewrite the engine as a new project currently called OSRTS (temporary anme)).

Then we have numerous independant modders, ranging from loosely collected teams to 1 man armies.

You would thus have to ask each and every one of the mod developers you'd like to offer involvement with, and then offer the devs, there's no 1 single correspondence here, infact there're more than anyone can count.

You have modders, mappers, modellers, AI's, lobbies, side tools, engine devs etc........ All acting independant of eachother.

For mods that are completely 100% copyright free and are worthy of publication:

Gundam is owned by Bandai... Smoth'd get sued in an instant if he tried to make money with it, more's the pity.

E&E will qualify, when it is no longer using textures or sounds from OTA. Fanger's getting there, though :-)

Gundam just requires a Bandai sublicense. You see some of the crap they put out? Surely Smoth's game can get a license... I mean, apparently all you need to do is sneeze on a sheet of paper, call it your plan, and kick up a little cash.

Its bene mentioend elsewhere that your proposal is at odds with the actual setup.

Theres mroe activity on smoths forum than on yours and this forum is much much bigger than yours, yet your basically trying to bring us into your dev group as a single entity? Do you not think you're biting off more than you can chew?

Most of the expertise you offer is content creation, and anything else would best be invested in OSRTS. The core of spring is pretty much a nonexistant spaghetti mess ltierally, SJ's attempts at learning OpenGL gone overboard.

If you are serious about it, you must consider the licence of Spring. As far as i know, Spring is GPL, which will meant that if you work with the code of Spring, the result must also be GPL.

The engine needs much polishing to be able to be made a serious game out of it. Installers, Intros, Game Menus, a Tutorial, etc.

That be done, you would need content, a «Mod».

All things considered, it might actually be a good idea for a software company. There is much, much work already done in Spring. All it needs is polishing as a engine and content. Just keep in mind that your company would probably have to release the code of the engine as GPL, i think, which may be something your company may not want. Even though i don't see why it wouldn't because most of the value of what you would be selling would be it's Content not the engine.

(My browsers load the page and get sent to the newest post then your images start loadign and I cant scroll anywhere without being pushed upwards by them loading)
