Warhammer: Mark of Chaos Demo

Post by Deathblane »

So, anyone playing it?

Get it from here.

It feels a lot like Rome with a touch of Warcraft 3 and the Battle for Middle Earth style campaign.

You got the url tag mixed up...

Probably not because the "old" DoW ran like crap once I had more than 50 units... :(

Yes^ (Not in the demo though)

Just finished playing it, and it was pretty fun. Were I not poor I'd probably buy it.

I'll have to try it, and see if they kept any of the gameplay from one of my all-time favorite Games Workshop interpretations... Shadow of the Horned Rat (really kewl, incredibly hard RTS game).

Yeah... and now that I've checked out the screens... that's a pretty impressive-looking game, graphics-wise. Very faithful to the artistic sources, and yet it doesn't look like it's a really gee-whiz, "omg I need the latest hardware to even play" game.

I played it. It is VERY reminicent, at least to me, of SOTHR, though I miss the really cool 'merc unit' feel of SOTHR. I DON'T miss the impossibly hard missions of SOTHR and the lack of 'me knowing how to playness' that contributed to my losses. It was only when I accidently found out how to use my wizard and blew several scaven regiments off the face of the earth and routed the others when I realized I should remember that button I pushed...

Very cool. I look forward to trying out the demo, then. SOTHR is what I was hoping to make Project Two into (with different art and stuff, so I wouldn't get sued, of course) but Spring still doesn't have the stuff I need to make it happen yet. OSRTS looks like it will, though...

Eh, which particular Dogs of War are you referring to? Or do you mean the Dwarf Gyrocopter?

I do find it quite intertesting that the 'mercenary' races (Orcs and Dwarfs at the moment) are themselves about 50-60% complete armies.

Shadow of the horned rat was super hard! I was getting stomped by giant wild feet more than once... 8)

what the game calls dogs of war are really units from other races that u can use as "mercs" so no birdmen as of yet...

Dled teh demo (its pretty hefty at 1.12 gigs but its worth it) and all i can say is wow. Game looks great, the demo started off all the settings on high so when i got to the first actual mission (not the tuts) it lagged like a mofo. Tweaking everything to medium (or low for shadow detail) made it way more stable that at the castle siege got laggy... (game still looked great even on meduim settings...)

All in All it looks good. like people have said its RTW engine with the Warhammer universe. while the battles are grander in size they aren't as much in detail. when fights occured i noticed that the units/regiments/what-have-you didn't move around to fully engage all their models. Indeed half the time two or three rows of soldiers would stand around waiting for a comrade to die so they could take their place. also DoW's combat did have one thing over MoC, finishing moves. watching a goblin die from teh same sword strike thats hit him 5 times before is somewhat disheartening.

damn, i was hoping for super cool animations. The marine force commander finishing a bloodthirster is one of the coolest things i have seen in any game evaaaar (even if it would *never* happen in tabletop)
