[XTA] Beating the Endgame Gunship Rush
So, you're in the endgame of a lengthy 3-person FFA. You're throwing wave after waves of Bulldogs and jammers at one of your enemies, with Bertha support, and slowly making headway. You have reason to believe the 3rd player has been attacked by the guy you're currently attacking, which is why neither of them have really gone after you for a few minutes. Then, about 30 gunships appear over your base. You've got Defenders and Flakkers, but they're decimated in about 30 seconds, and the rest of your base vanishes a few seconds later.
What could you have done to defend against this onslaught of gunships? I guess the obvious answer is "scout the other guy, even if you're fairly sure he's busy," but beyond that..?

I just wallpaper my base with Defenders and Samsons, that keeps them off, and while the gunships are distracted by that, have the flakkers dish the real pain...I am talking about a lot of SAMs though.
Last night I had a game and I succesfully defended against Rapier rushes like that, however, Brawlers are the true pain.

latelly... while a play any game... i keep pushing crashers from the lab during ALL the gameplay... They are not much expensive... so no real e/m drain there, at the end i have LOTS of them sitting around...
this has helped me even against tank atacks, to spot them.(as mobile targets they work fine too :) ).
Anyhow, having 40 vamps/hawk will defeat those 30 brawlers... they just suck angainst the fighters.
Also, a goof idea while the brawlers are visiting your base is to cloak the commander :) .

Ok guy, prepare to learn. :)
My TA partner of old was a chronic brawler masser. The only strategy he ever used was to mass hundreds of brawlers, then send them at you to take out your anti-nuke, then nuke you to death.
First off, arm anti-air is better than their Core counterparts, for the most part. If you want units to build to counter brawlers, in order from best to worst, they are:
- Arm mobile flak. This thing chews through brawlers like nothing.
- Hawks/Vamps
- Sumo. It takes forever for brawlers to kill it.
- Panther. It has a missile launcher and a lightning gun, therefore is good for more than just brawlers.
- Flak turrets and core mobile flak (it sucks compared to Arm)
- Samson/Slasher/Jethro/Defender etc.
Whatever you do, build lots of them. Ideally a mix.
The number one most effective structure to use against brawlers is:
Fortification walls. I'm not kidding. Surround key structures with fortification walls, and brawlers basically can't damage them. Be aware that this does not work against Rapiers, or bombers, and enough Hawks can break down fortification walls. It doesn't make you immune to brawlers, but it does slow them down long enough for your defense to chew them up.
Oh, and don't put your defense behind the fortification walls. They'll blow themselves up.
