the only reason I started any politics was due to the CURRENT television broadcast of current events...

and people need to be informed.

that was all...

for it to sprawl out of control.. sure, ban it.

if people want to be informed they'll go to MSN.com and if they want a political discussion there a hundreds of sites specifically for that. I would prefer that something so controversial stays the F**K out of the forums.

Im pretty interested in the political make up of spring. I also think that this kinda discussion can take on a certain aspect that is impossible on a forum such as msn, where the posters have no previous communication. Provided it all stays as is, and normal flame rules are in place, i see no problem.

I'd say seperating them from the off-topic forum is a good idea IMO.

I have to read or watch the latest news in order to be informed and be able to keep up on the matter which is something I don't do (therefore the random bullshit comments on my part). I would completely ignore them if they weren't in the off-topic forum.

I've seen less combative FPS game forums... by that logic you're dealing with people who like murdering people. Frankly I'd blame the pseudo intellectual egotism of many of the people here. The average e-penis size for a member of this community is WAY larger then it should be.

It tugs my nuts how many arguments here come down to "OMG, HOW DARE YOU QUESTION ME, DO YOU KNOW HOW BIG A NAME I AM IN THIS COMMUNITY/ALL THE THINGS I'VE CONTRIBUTED?" You're just another random ock on the internet, and if you produce content only to garner respect then you don't deserve the respect anyways. IMO there is no level of importance where you still don't have to actually make intelligent arguments to be right and you are above intelligently considering the arguments that others make. Yet many people here seem to believe they are on that level still.
that, is so true.

<raises hand> Cabbage!

Just kidding.

I really have to stop talking about Polotics when I voted Yes to banning it...but the <insert random other side person> is soooo stupid that arguing on an internet poll is going to change their minds!

That is the funniest thing I've read in a forum in weeks.

Seriously I'm generally indifferent when it comes to politics. I am American, I am anti-big government, but realize unfortunately government a necessary "evil".

I don't like Democrats, and I hate Republicans.
I'm not politically correct, I come from many races (Euro-Asian-African descent). I think race jokes are funny. And I have friends from all over the world. Many of whom have room-mated with me while here.

Frankly I am indifferent to all name calling and arguments, some of which can be quite entertaining. So I -1 for outright banning of all discussion, though I don't really care THAT much. Any curbing of liberty is shameful, but sometimes necessary. If we're going to be a bunch of babies perhaps it's for the best.

A friend once told me; Why is it when I say "I just want to be left alone." Funny looking government workers in dark suits and sunglasses approach me saying, "You better come with us Sir"..

The sad reality of the situation is that most likely there is a large portion of the community that IS just going to be a bunch of babies. There is far too little general humility and respect here. I'd rather not ban discussions on politics here, because mature discussion is an incredibly valuable thing, people can learn and grow through. We have outlooks from all over the world here and there is potentially alot of interesting perspective that could be gained on many issues that the forum members here won't gain in the private circles elsewhere or in their home countries/states/cities. Many many members here are indicating that they simply don't deserve the privilege of being treated like intelligent constructive human beings and being allowed to voice their opinions though.

so deal with each incident individually as opposed to blanket-banning what you just stated could be an extrememly interesting discussion.
