Still, the Supcom nuke is decidedly more convincing than Argh's nuke.Buggi wrote:Wow, this is truly impressive man. Quite the accomplishment!

i think that when it first explodes it needs to be very fast, just for a split second, and then slowly grow massive and die out. It just looks wierd right now at how slow it first expands. go watch any nuke video on google and the ball of fire is formed almost instantly and then expands very slowly upwards.
also need better sound, i now thats been mentioned. great job though, ive been waitng for this for a long time now.

I think I got the whole flash thing solved in a reasonably-fast way:

Now... er... not to dampen everybody's enthusiasm too much... but I should say, again, that you will not want to throw this puppy around generically, and quite honestly, I'll be a bit miffed if everybody just copies into their mod without taking due consideration for what is appropriate at a given scale.
If you want it half-sized, for example, you're going to recode just about everything proportionally, but you're also going to want to drop the particle-count so that you can have a bunch on-screen at once without crippling FPS. Doubling it in size will require roughly double the particle-count to look as good it does now. I should note that this is rigged for an explosion of AOE 512, which by OTA standards was quite large. In an Epic-scaled game like NanoBlobs, it dwarfs even the largest units very easily and puts the puny size of things into perspective.
I have one last major area of improvement to embark on, which will make this look much more realistic, but that'll wait for tomorrow night, because quite frankly I'm too tired right now.

So long, Mom, I'm off to drop the bomb
So don't wait up for me
But while you swelter down there in your shelter
You can see me on your TV
While we're attacking frontally
Watch Brinkally and Huntally
Describing contrapuntally
The cities we have lost
No need for you to miss a minute
Of the agonizing holocaust, yeah
Little Johnny Jones he was a U.S. pilot
And no shrinking vi'let was he
He was mighty proud when World War Three was declared
He wasn't scared, no siree!
And this is what he said on
His way to Armageddon
So long, Mom, I'm off to drop the bomb
So don't wait up for me
But though I may roam I'll come back to my home
Although it may be a pile of debris
Remember, Mommy, I'm off to get a commie
So send me a salami
And try to smile somehow
I'll look for you when the war is over
An hour and a half from now
So don't wait up for me
