Lego Spring

Post by Sheekel »

Well, i finally found a few friends who are interested in making this mod.

Its been dead for almost a year, but we're going to take another stab at it.

See the old thread here for info:

I suppose the main goal initially is to see if there is any interest in the mod, and then iron out some unit specs for each race.

I keep having crazy new ideas for what to do with the mod and then feeling sad because it's dead... but now I'm happy and forget all of them for some reason... new ones will come I'm sure.

I am interested, but have little to no time to do actual work. However, I would be willing to test when you are at that stage.

Sweet. I found some old Minifig models and all of the textures i made (24-bit bmps).

I dont really see the point in making UV maps, its all just colors and bricks, which i already have here:

ok...these models should be done with conventional modelling software; mlcad and such make too many polygons for any practical gaming.

Yes, we noticed that in the previous thread :P

Im probably going to end up doing all the texturing/scripting, because my friend is really good at modelling.

I also lack any creative talent at all. I just cant "picture" what i want to make. So all my units look pretty boring/average.

Alright, there are several options for the models:

1. We make each section one large peice, such as a "base" and a "barrel." This would cut down on the polygon count, but the explosions would not look as good (we really want to strive for tons of lego bits and peices going flying during the explosions...)

2. The other option is to divide each section, such as a base for a Mex, into individual bricks. Then each brick will have its own explosion parameters and result in both better explosions and higher polycounts. I suppose the difference between the two counts would be somewhat insignificant, other than that i wont be deleting "hidden" faces because you'll see a 3-sided cube go flying across the screen, rather than a lego block.

Worth bearing in mind that you can explode a single piece multiple times.

And it will still explode from the origin of the piece, not from where it is currently displaced?

It looks as though my IQ is just as low as a year ago, because i can never seem to get mods to compile/build/group/whatever properly.

Could i just upload you the files in their appropriate folders (scripts, download, etc) and let you mess with trying to get them ingame?

(/me goes to examine WIKI for help)

Big uber mech thing. Is this gonna be just OTA+lego, or a whole new mod?

A whole new mod

Shotguns, a mex, a radar, a infantry factory, and a windfarm (not quite happy with most of them):

Ok, I'll be uploading models to the gmail account, starting with the base lego character.

edit...ok, turns out im terrible at modelling minifigs. I'll just do mechs and vehicles and such then. What shall the energy-making buildings be? Solar? Fusion? Particle accellerators?
