Multi Colours

Post by Abokasee »

Would it be possible to have more than 1 colour for units IG black + green or Yellow + Green etc?

You mean team colours, I suppose?

Id like greater customization over the appearance of units/buildings, it would be great having things like multiple colours.

It would also be cool having things like player icons, that would help identify people (because I'm terrible with remembering names).

Yeah, I think we need a DOW style "3 or so team colours and a team icon" for players to use...

Only problem is that the model format doesn't support that.

Yeah, think first, then post. The only thing which is possible are different shades of team color (I'm talking about s3o). That is all.

and how would you tell yellow-team black units from black-team yellow units?

i think there are easier solutions, like bright colors vs dark colors, cold colors vs warm colors, etc

ok, lets assume that the spring people add a THIRD level of overlay.. that another pass. Then lets consider the moders who would then have to add support for this. Now after all that work MOST players play soo far zoomed out that they will not see it. So everyone works really hard for nothing.

See in dawn of war you are stuck in close proximity to your units in spring we can zoom WAY out and most players use this because this is a big strategic battle game and not some small tactical game like DOW or Starcraft.

It wasn't sarcastic, those are the facts. Also, if your request was sarcasm, I request you ask a moderator to delete this thread. This sub forum is for serious feature requests. I am a programmer, I am also one of the moders in this community, you can choose to not believe me if that is what you want but I was telling you the situation.

Some script to eliminate the ability of players to use a color that other player
is already using would probaly be more usefull... Im sick of playing games where half of the world population is blue just because some people are too lazy to search a unused color...

No no smoth, it's saracasm, what ever that is. 8)

Also instead of more overlay textures I'd rather have the current one improved by adding more blending methods instead of simple overlay (FBI tags perhaps). Something such as soft light or colouring is way more useful than simple overlay as it is now.

Actually, you can combine teamcolor, standard color, glow and reflectivity to give a very wide range of color behaviors at render time... it just requires a little more work.

Command engine wont support gfx cards that dont have shader model 2 (GF FX5200+ or ATI9600+), which isnt an issue as those 2 cards in particular are very cheap, I've seen them online around the £18 mark.

Although, Argh I'd like to see an example.
